Feeding Bowls

How many here use "spaniel bowls" (the deep ones that are supposed to keep the ears out of the food)? Do they work? Do your dogs like/cope ok with them? Are they even necessary? Do you use them for both food and for water?

Is it necessary to buy the metal non-slip ones, or are the plastic ones ok?

If you don't use a spaniel bowl, what sort do you use?

I just use normal bowls at the minuite but im hoping to get chow bella spaniel bowls , i will probably just get them for water as my dogs are on dry food. The only problem i find with plastic bowls is mine chew them

We have a metal non-slip for water, find them much better than a normal bowl for water. But we use normal bowls or food

We have normal stainless steel bowls (they are on a small stand) for food as they are on dry food so no problems with food getting in their ears
We also use a large Stainless steel one for water but I would like to get a Spaniel bowl for their water as they can get wet ears on a regular basis
I would love a Chow Bella

Has anyone tried the Road Refresher Non Spill Dog Bowls (for water), as featured on Dragons Den a year or so ago?

No, but just googled them and they look good, might consider one for in the car when we go away . Do they work like they say they do livercake? xx

I have the road refresher bowl in the kitchen, I love it, my kitchen used to resemble a swamp when they had all been for a swim drink. My only issue is that with 4 dogs I am filling it about 6 times+ a day.  They do have a very large porcelain bowl outside for water, as they can slop it as much as they like out there.  You do have to watch the floating plate bit inside the RR bowl as sometimes it goes skewiff and gets stuck. I always take it in the car in the summer too.

We also have the cream crock spaniel bowl from pets at home, not sure why I bought two spaniel bowls because they have dried food  Poppy drops water all over the kitchen floor don't think anything would stop that because it comes out of her lips after shes finished drinking and walking away

we have all manner of bowls - the favourite one is the bird bath table outside, closely followed by an old planter that has about 4 inches of rainwater in it and the stream at the end of the garden.

The road refresher is just in the car

Yup.... Honey far prefers drinking out of an unused planter in the garden than either of her water bowls... 
She was most unimpressed when it iced over in the winter!!! 

We don't have a spaniel bowl, but while Honey's food gets put in a bowl, it tends to be eaten off the floor, so I don't think it would make much difference to her!!!

We have a road refresher in the crate in the car....totally brilliant invention 

I was thinking of getting a spaniel bowl for the kitchen but as the girls prefer rain water from just about anything that can hold water in the garden I think I might be wasting my time

Yes we have the PAH ceramic bone spaniel bowl although as Odie is still only small, his ears hang in it!    Will be better when he grows a bit bigger.  Use a normal ceramic bowl for dried food as he throws plastic ones around the place    Have got a spaniel type plastic one (approx 75p) from Wilkinsons for travel purposes though.

Tiff has a metal spaniel bowl for her food and it does keep her ears out.  Her water bowl is my late dobermans massive ceramic bowl which Tiff could get her front feet in while she's having a drink if she wanted to  So the ears go straight in.

We went through some nice pretty ceramic bowls - the dobie tended to smash them in her haste to get out the back door after a cat    so opted for the metal one in the end.

I used to leave a water bowl outside in the summer till I read on here about slugs and lungworm
