I hadn't heard about walking your cocker the number of miles as per months old, but he's still raring to go after doing 10! He's not walked that amount every day-my son likes to take him on long walks when he's off shift. I'm walking him further as I'm on holiday just now and I like to take him longer walks at the weekend during term time when he can run freely off the lead.

When I was researching info about cockers on this site, I came across many threads advising exercise levels and they said it's 5 mins walks for each month (eg 6 months old = 30 mins maybe twice a day).  As my Odie is only 14 weeks old, I'm taking him out 15-20 mins x 2 walks per day.  Mind you, he could do longer but I think it's to do with their bone development etc.   :D
Both taken away from us far too soon. x  RIP Angels Odie & Archie, causing mayhem at the Rainbow, no doubt!

My son asked the nurse at the vet's if it was okay to walk him as far and she said as long as he was coping with it, it was fine. She said the main thing was not to walk him long distances on concrete for his pads, but it was alright on ground. I suppose the main thing is to use common sense, as each pup will be different. Alfie is always still full of beans after his walks but others might tire more easily.

It's really not an issue of what they can cope with now, but the damage that it can do to the joints for future - if you consistently over-exercise a pup, you could end up with an adult dog with arthritis and other joint problems....  :-\

As Karma said its nothing to do with how your pup will tire , its his developing joints and bones. When Dennis was 6 months if id have let him he would have walked forever and he really dosnt tire easily ,i found that two half hour walks a day and plenty of mind occupying games kept him happy at 6 months
