Feeding my 7 month old cocker spaniel
« on: April 06, 2010, 08:27:01 PM »
Hi there,

We have a 7 month old pure black cocker spaniel pup. We have had him for 7 days now, and his has had runny poo since we have had him. We kept him on his usual Butchers Puppy Complete Dry Food 120 grams twice per day. We wormed him 2 days ago, and he has been on fresh white rice and chicken for 2 days. We took him to the vets today as they said they want to see him if his runny poo lasts after 7 days.

The vet today said Fergus is stressed due to moving home, he has no other signs of illness as his anal temperature is normal, so the vet has prescribed Canikur Pro paste twice per day, and also a can of Hills Prescription Diet i/d Canine twice per day and then slowly add some Butchers Puppy dry food again and he should be fine.

Has any one else had similar problems with their cocker spaniel puppy?

Mason was the same when he came to us at 10 weeks.  The Hills and the pro kolin sorted him out and he was fine  :D  It is stressful on them whilst they are finding their paws in a new environment and I am sure you will see an improvement in a little while  :luv:

This is quite usual... you can take the opportunity to review food choice too...

Thanks, we are glad it seems to be normal thing to happen.

Is there a need to change Fergus's food from Bakers puppy dry food? If so, what would you suggest to try him on?

This is exactly what we did with Mason.  He came to us on Pedigree Puppy  :o so after his course of Hills I switched him to part Arden Grange part raw meat & bones.

Unfortunatley Manxie Girl the most widely available and most advertised dog foods out there are also the worst for your dog.  There are many better foods available with higher meat content and no fillers.

Just to clarify, is he on Butchers or Bakers? (you said Butchers in your OP)
