Annie was mugged by electrified staffie
« on: April 17, 2010, 11:20:32 AM »
 >:D Talking of irresponsible dog owners. Yesterday I was walking Annie up our usual bridleway and called her back as a woman and a staffie I disn't recognise were approaching. I assumed the staffie was friendly as he wasn't on a lead, but as I didn't know him put Annie on her lead anyway. As the other dog passed he suddenly charged at Annie and attacked her; he was all over her in seconds and she was screaming  ::) Thank god he suddenly stopped before Annie was physically injured, although she was shaking like a leaf, and his owner put him on his lead. She was most apologetic and said "I'm so sorry, he hasn't done that for ages" Then she showed me her device and proudly explained how she had given him an electric shock which is why he had stopped attacking Annie so suddenly  :o

So this woman clearly knew her dog had a history of attacking other dogs and yet didn't put him on a lead even though she saw Annie and I approaching from about 100 yards away, then when he DID attack used an electric shock collar to control him. Some people REALLY shouldn't have dogs  >:D

Stupid woman. All that staffie is learning is that other dogs normally result in a nasty shock. He was prob warning Annie off in a "dont come near me or bad things happen" fashon. Shes just enforcing the aggressive behaviour.

I hope Annies ok

Poor Annie and poor staffie. That woman should wear a shock collar and see how she likes it.  >:D

Annie's fine, luckily we met one of her friends a few minutes later so she had a nice dog to play with to give her back confidence. I was most annoyed with myself - I was so stunned all I could say to the woman was "Don't worry, it's not your fault" when of course she SHOULD worry and it WAS her fault! Kicking myself now for not giving her a mouthful.

That is just horrendous, the stupid woman will be making her dog frightened of other dogs if it gets a shock every time it goes near them, and then she's going to end up with a much worse fear aggressive dog than she has now. :-\

I'm glad Annie is ok, and I hope you don't meet that woman again, but make sure you give her a piece of your mind next time.

OMG.... how awful for Annie, and for you.

I get so worried when I read more and more about these irresponsible dog owners.....What on earth is wrong with these people?  If they know that their dog has attacked once before, then why don't they exercise more caution.  I would be devastated if my dog hurt another dog, because I hadn't taken more care.

I do hope Annie will recover from the experience.....poor girl.  Sending lots of hugs.  :luv:

Poor Annie :luv:, stupid woman >:D
It also drives me mad also if I'm walking her on lead and a dog off lead comes over and attacks her for no reason. People should have more consideration and thought in the company of others.
Just goes to show how much we assume that a dog off lead must be reasonably well behaved. Amongst others, there's a guy in my park with a huge long haired German Shepherd who always runs over in a very threatening manner (the dog, not the owner :005:), and my Darcy hits the deck screaming from fear. He's never done anything but I always put her on a lead and take a wide berth if I see them.

OMG!!! I just cant believe that - I'm a bit embarassed to say I've got a fear of staffies and I do panic when we see one approaching (although we met a lovely one today and I know its not all staffies and staffie owners)... but this kind of thing does not help.......

Poor you I'd be really angry as well..... >:(

Lets hope the staffie never gets loose away from the irresponsible owner then as it sounds like it could seriously injure or even kill another dog if it were free to do so.
Such a shame - my son has 3 staffies , a dashound and a small terrier and all of them are absolutely lovely dogs , bought up in a big family they will lick you and any other dog to death.
Once again an owner it seems who has to resort to pain to control her dog.

I only mentioned it was a staffie so you could picture the scene - if it was a yorkie I would have said it was a yorkie; I don't want you to think I'm racially prejudiced against staffies and I have a friend who has lovely staffies
