I hope you have been able to make a desician.
Ian B's post is lovely, and it was fantastic when he rescued Jarvis and Dale.

If I am being very honest though I would struggle with fears as well about losing an older cocker.  My OH thinks this is stupid and says even a couple of years with a cocker is worth it, especially if you know you have given them a great life. We discussed it at length before getting Harry.  However I don't know if I could cope if I lost one to soon   I feel terrible and very guilty for saying it, as there are older cockers in need of lovely homes out there, but I just couldn't cope with the loss so wouldn't put myself through it.

You have to do whats right for you in your heart, if they come to you I am sure you will have much joy with them, but if you decide its not right for you then no way are you being selfish you are just making the best decisian you can for you and your family.

Good luck whatever you decide :luv:

Hello, this is my first post on the forum and I shouldn't really be on here maybe because I have an ESS, but have joined as a computerless friend of mine is in the proccess of adopting 2 cockers :D

Just wanted to add my tuppence worth on the subject of older dogs, a few years ago I took on a 12 year old black labrador, she lived until she was almost 16 and the joy she brought into my life was immeasurable, we loved each other from the moment we met and had almost 4 fantastic years together, I'll never forget her and never for a second regretted bringing her into our home.

As others have said you have to do whats right in your heart, and hope you have been able to make a decision :D

Thanks for everyones input.

I hate to admit this cause I feel very guilty and a bit upset, but I didn't go ahead with the 2 old boys.
I was just to nervous of loosing the older one so soon after loosing Tuggy.  A poor excuse cause I know
that they would have had a great life here with us.  I'd only met and walked them the once and feel so
upset.   Just as well dogs don't understand whats going on as we do.

On a lighter note, I phoned today and someone else is interested in see ing them.  I'm keeping everything crossed
that they will end up in a forever home soon as they were a lovely pair.

Thanks again for your thoughts.

You've got to do what feels right for you...  ;)
If that wasn't this pair, then it is better to decide that now, rather than start the process of rehoming them and then realise it's not right.

The right dog(s) are out there waiting for you!  :luv:
And the right home will be there for the 2 boys!  :luv:

I agree too.  ;)  It must be upsetting but it is for the best if you weren't 100% sure.  I hope the 2 boys have a new forever home very soon & you find the right dog for your family too.  :shades: :luv:

Not a poor excuse at all, I think you really have to be certain in heart and mind when taking on any new animal.

Good luck with finding your new doggies.

I just read all the way through this and was about to add my input, but then read that you had decided against taking the boys. You have obviously made the right decision for you, as you had so many doubts, but hopefully the 2 boys will get a great new home together soon, and you will get the dog you are looking for.

What I was going to say was that I took on my boy Gari a month off his 9th birthday and we became soul mates very quickly, we went everywhere together, and had a wonderful time, going on lovely holidays and walks. I lost him last year when he was 11 years and 8 months, and although we didn't have as long as I would have liked, I wouldn't have changed a thing, I will always be so glad I took him on, and would do it again. :luv: My point of saying that is to reassure that you when the dog that is for you comes along, age doesn't matter, it is the life you have together that will be important, and you will be able to make a huge difference to that dog's life. :luv:

Good luck with your search for your new friend. :D

Good news for these boys.  They have been reserved.  I really hope they are very happy in their forever home as
they were lovely dogs.  I am so happy for them.
