breeding solids with partials

hi i have 2 male cocker's excellent pedigree both field trial one is chocolate the other blanket blue roan. I also have a beautiful orange roan bitch is it OK to breed my chocolate dog with her as he is solid colour and if so what colours would prob be in litter chocolate/orange roan   blue roan/orangeroan thanks Steve

You'd have to know a lot more about the dogs, their pedigrees, health test results etc before anyone could say this mating would be ok but luckily your girl is just a baby so you have until she's 2 to do all your research. The same applies to what colours they might produce if they did turn out to be suitable to be mated together - you'd need to know more about their family background to say what colours might be produced as recessive colours like orange and liver can only come through if BOTH parents carry the genes for the respective colours. Hi Steve I to have working cockers. A few years ago I bred my blue roan bitch to a solid chocolate dog & the result was 2 golden pups with white bibs & a solid black pup, no roans as the solid dog didn't carry the roan gene. Without know the background of your dogs your guess is as good as mine as to what this breeding would produce.
