When will he start lifting his leg?

Alfie has just turned 8months old and as yet is showing no immediate signs of lifting his leg. I was surprised at this as my last cocker started when he was 5 months old, but realise there will be variations from pup to pup. He doesn't wee very much when he is out walking, varying between 1 and 3 times. He is interested in the base of trees and bushes but not in a hurry to take it the next step forward. Could there be any connection to the fact that he has an undescended testicle?

My boy with the undescended testicle started cocking at 6 months and my boy that had both present took 2 years, so I don't think it's connected

I once fostered an 18 mo old entire male cocker and he still didn't - blasted dog could still mark on the sofa and just about everywhere else though

Freddie (now 7 months) half cocked about a month ago and I thought "this is it" but he has only done it once since. He has recently started weeing to scent mark, though - just a few drops.

Alfie doesnt cock yet, hardly ever pees out walking- only when hes desperate. Suppose it varies from dog to dog xxx

Thanks for that. I hadn't looked beyond the puppy forum as there's always plenty going on in it and thought the other forum would be relating more to adult dogs but I see there's plenty pup imput there too... and I see Alfie is by no means alone being happy to squat still!

Archie is 9 months nearly 10 and still does not cock his leg! ohhhhhhh he's like a girl!

My Bertie is 2 next month and still he doesn`t cock his leg !!!! But Honey on the other hand lifts her leg while shes squatting for a wee !

My 2 are 16 months now and Angus started cocking his leg a few months ago Baxter however still squats both of them have a undecended testicle.

Taz will be 3 tomorrow and rarely cocks his leg - only tends to be in the fields when he is marking.  He has always done girl squats but he has always lived with a bitch (no not me!) so probably doesnt realise he is suppose to!

Am really surprised to hear about all the boys who prefer to squat but its reassuring to know that Alfie, at 8mths is not alone with not lifting his leg. I grew up with a succession of black lab males who all cocked their legs as they were growing up, as did my previous blue roan cocker Jake, so I assumed that all the boys automatically do it sooner rather than later, but it's obviously not the case!
