Hi all.  I've been various replies to posts concerning puppies being dry overnight at very young ages and I'm starting to wonder if there is something wrong with Odie!  He is now 5.5 months old and he still wakes me up around 3-4am for a wee (sometimes a poo).  He sleeps in my room in his crate BTW.

His last meal is around 5pm, I'm feeding him 7.30am and 5pm, with occasional treats for training purposes in between.  He doesn't drink a huge amount (unless it's hot) and nothing after about 7pm, even though he has access to it all the time.

Surely at this age he should be able to be dry overnight if much younger pups can?  Advice please.  Lesley  :D

rupert is 6 months old and still wees in the night, although recently he has gone through a couple of runs of around 5 dry nights so maybe its starting to improve?
i thought it would be better by now too!

Tali is just over 5 months old now and he still has only done one number 2 outside and is only just learning he can do a wee outside too. But I didn't expect him to learn too quickly being in a flat. He even goes out for several hours and holds stuff in til he get's home. However one day it will click. Yours will do the same, don't worry, it'll come to them soon enough. :D

:) Odie is still very young really.... I think its easy to forget how young they are because at times it can feel like they have been with you forever (especially at night!!!) .  Bear with him, he'll go through one night and then you'll wake up panicking that something is wrong with him  :005:

Honey wasn't reliably dry overnight until she was nearly a year.... we would go days without an accident and then wake to a puddle.
 ;)

All puppies take different lengths of time to acheive full housetraining... so don't worry that others seem to have got there younger!  :D

Charlie is now nearly 4 months old & still goes to the toilet during the night. He'll have a good few nights where he doesn't do anything, then i'll wake up & he'll have either have done a poo or a wee, he might have accidents for a couple of nights & then be dry again. I think like MaggieR said, they are still young & I guess one night it will just click & wont happen again. When I got Charlie it was a big difference during the night time to when I had my labrador as he only ever pooed in the house once when he was a pup & was pretty much house trained really quickly but i've learnt that every dog is different and does it at their own speed. Charlie is great now in the day time so i'm really thankful for that.

Ellie is 6 months old and she sleeps in my room in her bed, no mess in the house in a long time now day or night, allthough i put a lot of it down to walking her morning and night and making sure she gets out to use the grass regularly (i live in a 2nd floor flat) she did have a puppy pen when she was very tiny but i think it did more harm than good as she made such a mess in it i decided not to use it anymore! i would say she is completly house trained now and does look to get outside to do her business.
as for the feeding she always has dry meal in her bowl (she picks more at this) and would get 1 meal of meat/chicken a day plus treats
Every dog is different but i honestly cant say enough for regular exercise and routine if they are exercised plenty and do their business when there out they come home and sleep then once they wake its straight out to the grass again! i feel this helped so much when house training her and it really has paid off for me, i would be stir crazy by now if she was still leaving 'presents' in the house!  :005:

Agree with you BeckyD, Odie is taken outside regularly and I've all but sorted the daytime problems I was having.  Since posting this, Odie is doing much better overnight.  He even has a poo before bed (something he never did!) and as a result is going all night from last wee (around midnight when OH comes to bed) to around 7am when I get up.  Lesley  :D

I agree with BeckyD too also living in a second floor flat, however Tali's daytime antics are still to be sorted. Night time is, luckily, sleep straight through and clean. One day we'll all post about how we stressed over all this and what clean, non nippy, quiet well behaved dogs we have. Well, maybe  :005:  ;)  :lol2:

You see Mel, you've had success with night toileting, whilst I haven't.  I suppose all pups have redeeming features :005:  I too hope that one day we'll say 'I can't really remember having much trouble with mine as a pup' :shades: :lol2:  What doesn't kill us makes us stronger I think is the saying :005:
