With Dylan we just kept perseveering with the yelping and turning away. It felt like it was never ending, and occassionaly got worse when he was teething, but then you just realise that you cant remember the last time he actually nipped you!

Now he very rarely even uses his mouth - he's all paws and barking! And if he does bite accidently, even when over excited its still really gentle and if you say ouch he'll lick your hand like mad! He's a right sweety.

Thanks for all the replies :D

She already seems a bit better, but having said that my daughter's hands are still a mess - half the problem is Tilly doesn't just nip, she chews at you so part of the problem in walking away is that you have to prize her off you first otherwise you walk off with a puppy dangling from your hand!

I think it helps though that the boys are back at school so the house is much quiet so she is getting more sleep and thus less wired!  I have to laugh at the wall of death thing - we have two cats that act like this (we call it their mad half hour) where they tear round the house like mad things so if they ever get on it will get interesting (my cats are nearly 9 and distinctly underwhelmed by Tilly, though she is very well mannered with them so far).

Thanks again
