[Danni and Freya]

Hi everyone, I am currently waiting on a working cocker litter as I will be getting a new dog pup ( ) to join Freya. I am a completely new dog owner (Freya is my first) and so have been reading loooooads about introducing a new dog, and I was just hoping to gain some ideas and advice from those of you who are more experienced than I am. I am sooo excited (hes due tomorrow or monday  ) and I just want to feel very prepared for it to go as smoothly as possible

I dont know if what i did was right or wrong but it worked for us. I had the boy first (Dexter) who was a year when we collected Clover. In the run up I got all the puppy stuff set up so he had time  to get used to it as I needed to turn his crate around to fit in a second (I didnt want to change too much at the same time).

I went to see her at 6 weeks and on our return i let him have a good sniff so he was familar to her smell. I also invited friends round with their dogs to make sure he was happy with other dogs coming into the house. Including one that I brought in without its owner.

Then on the big day we put her in the garden and let him out to discover her himself. We let them have a  good sniff of each other and then my OH took Dexter for  a walk while Clover had a good explore. On his return we just went about our day and let them both do as they pleased. We all sat on the floor while watching tv so Clover can get to know us in her own time. Dexter was alittle jealous and kept jumping between her and us. So me and my OH agreed that if Clover aproached either of us the other should get Dexters attention and give him some fuss so she can get to know us as she wishes.

Over night we let Dexter sleep in our room so he wasnt disturbed by Clovers crying.

It look us alittle longer to build a bound with her compared with Dexter and to a large extent she looks to Dexter. So whereever possiable try to get time alone with the new pup so that he bounds with you as well as Freya.

we did pretty much exactly the same as Sarah1985, we set the puppy stuff up in advance, let Bella have a good sniff when we visited the pup and when we bought Jasmine the pup home we put her on the lawn and let Bella find her, they were scared of each other at first but then had a good sniff and mooch around.
Bella slept upstairs with us but whenever Jasmine cried Bella went down to see her. I had no problems between the two at this stage at all. They were both often to be found snuggled up asleep together. Bella was 10 months old when Jasmine came home.
