Help needed RE: barking
« on: June 11, 2010, 04:20:03 PM »
Hello, we need help fast, we are on holiday in Greece camping in the motor home.  Selby has been really good with everything no trouble what so ever except for his barking, anyone goes passed on the beach and he woofs his head off, anyone in the water and he starts again, in fact at anything now.  I am sure you experts will have some tips for me please, as we wont be allowed back next year!!!!!!

I have tried catching him before he starts and say no but to no avail.  Please Help >:D

How long have you been there? We went camping with our 14 month old last week and he was just the same for the first two days.

We kept him on a lead and called him to our side every time he began barking at people passing the tent. We then told him to be quiet and rewarded with a treat if he was. Making sure we were very calm ourselves and showing little interest in the people passing also helped.

By the last of our 5 days away he hardly barked at all. A great improvement from barking at everyone in great excitment on the first day.

Have a good holiday  and I hope Selby settles down.

We have been here just over 2 weeks. I will try and keep him by my side and give him treats if he is good and see if that works.  The worse time is when we take him on the boat he just never stops, i cant make out if he is so excited or if he is nervous, but he jumps in when he knows we are going. He is only 29 weeks old so still very young but we do this every year so he will have to get used to it. I think more training is needed when we get back.

Hope you enjoyed your hols and thanks for the advice
