If you phone them, and tell them a bit about Ollie, they will send you some very generous samples.

Also whatever you change him over to, it's important to do it slowly. I'd suggest you ask the vet when it's ok to start changing him over to something else.

I to am a newbie, Mum to  a Blue Rhone cocker called Ollie aged 16 weeks.
I had exactly the same problem with Ollie and his Pooh. I tried JWB which didn't help, a trip to the vets showed that Ollie had two bacterial infections! He is now on antibiotics. We put him on rice and chicken for a couple of days which really helped. He is on Hills prescription food at the moment but at £18 for 2kg he can't stay on it long which is a shame as he seems to be doing really well on it (two firm poohs a day). I had thought of changing to burns but after reading some of the posts I have been put off. I don't know where to go from here.

Burns is a decent dog food which many dogs do really well on, have a try and see if it helps him in any way. Different foods suit different dogs xx

Hi, it could also be the flavour rather than the make of food.  Ozzy always had runny poos so much so that he didn't put on much weight.  He had antibiotics and then some 'good bacteria' paste that really helped, but we finally worked out that anything with chicken in was causing it!  Obviously giving him chicken and rice didn't help at the time but we now steer clear of anything with poultry, including in his treats.  His 'output' is now fine. 

Hope you sort it out soon as I know its a worry.

i had the same trouble with Daisy and the vet gave me Pro-Kolin paste i gave her this with 4 small dinners of rice and boiled chicken for 5 days i then slowly introduced a small handful of Eukanuba puppy food and reduced the the chicken and rice and it worked a treat 
she now has Eukanuba lamb and she has 2 meals a day xx

Roxy came with Fish4dogs so she was leaving really sticky wet piles!!  She thrives on JWB now.  Also I did go to the vets and mentioned it and apparently it's perfectly normal for puppies to be 'loose', they're still working out how their systems work.

I agree, Brodie does brilliantly on Burns, has a good weight and a lovely coat, whereas when she was on JWB her coat was dull and I found it difficult to manage her weight - it really does depends on the dog

I now know I am a neurotic new mum--I rushed Ollie off to the vets yesterday because I found a large nest of mites/ticks/god knows what at the end of each ear, YES you have guessed it----FOOD CRUMBS. Well at least they were dead! I am now the owner of a nit comb for Ollie's ears.

Hi, you have had great advice so far but I do agree it may be best to have him checked at the vets too just in case.  Our Daisy had the same soft poo when we got her and it turned out she had giardia and (after pro kolin, panacur and metronizadole) the vet thought she was probably intolerant to an ingredient in the food she was on which (if the tummy is upset) opens the gate to giardia so after changing to royal canin sensitivity control and giving her the meds she was back to solid poo - I think the food played a big part in the loose poo and giardia flaring up.
I wanted to feed her burns mini bites but this made her stools worse but I do hope to go onto burns when she is a bit older as she is already enjoying some wet food mixed in with the dry and with no tummy problems so far 
Good luck and hopefully it is just a food intolerance you can solve with a gradual change to something else....

Thanks for all the messages, I have changed Alfie's food to James Wellbeloved since then, but it does not seem to have improved.  I am wondering if there is a problem with his anal glands as noticed a fishy smell the other day and he skooted on his bottom after pooing.  Anyway, have an appointment at the vet this afternoon so hopefully get him sorted.  The strange thing is he seems fine in every other way, does not seem to want to poo in a hurry, no accidents because he can't get outside quick enough or anything, just goes out as normal and poos what is looking like cappucino now

This does sound so similar to the period we had with Daisy, no accidents etc in the house, no poorly signs and full of her usual beans, not put off her food etc (then I would definately know there was a problem as she's a walking stomach!  )  It sounds more than likely a food issue or a wee tummy bug.  For Daisy it was both!
I had to take Daisy to have her anal glands released a few times during the time, this is just because her business was not firm enough to release the anal glands and when the pressure starts to build they scoot their bottoms as it is a bit uncomfortable (nothing to worry about though and will be fine when the poo is back to normal).  You will get all the answers at the vets and hopefully her tum settles down soon!  Cuddles to Alfie

Hi, my pup is on Purina Pro Plan and loves it, but I have heard great things about James Wellbeloved. We also supplement with a wet food (Hi Life) which smells rather yum!
