Just wondering whether anyone has heard of a working cocker having a change of coat colour ?
Jed was neutered and is now 6 yrs old, so this is not a post-neuter issue.
He is solid black, but over the past few weeks we have noticed he seems to be turning auburn! I would say that his coat may have had a reddish cast in the sun during the Summer.
His father was a brown solid, but is it possible for a dog to change coat colour like this?

Both my twos coats get lighter in the summer. But I assume this hasnt happened during previous summers...Has he been out in the sun alot more than usual recently?

Dexters black but has always had a slight red tint right from being a puppy. It just gets more noticable in the summer months

A lot of black dogs can develop a sort of rusty tinge on their coats, especially in the summer months as the sun bleaches out more colour. My liver working Cocker has a similar thing where the longer parts of her coat (her topknot and her fuzzy bits on her back, sides and legd) go a sort of blondish-gingerish colour, you can only really see her proper dark brown colour underneath and it's definitely more noticeable in the summer, she looks like she's wearing a blonde wig just now Snigger  In her case most of it is dead hair/fuzz which loses its proper colouration.

It's the sun bleaching it, not a coat change  Wink

I agree about the sun bleaching, but I also heard the brown tinge can mean they carry tan (either red/liver or 'and tan').  It would make sense with his Dad being solid brown.
