Sardines
« on: August 28, 2010, 08:12:01 AM »
For those who feed sardines how much do you feed your dog? Or how do you work out the right amount? I always feed about half a tin but don't know if that's too much too little??

Thanks

Coco has sardines about once a week.  I feed a whole tin usually with a raw egg on top - she has the ones in tomato sauce and loves them  :D

Lynn - don't worry so much about being right or wrong about sardines :bigarmhug:  Kibble and sardines is fine, if you feed too much once or twice then you can change the amount the next time, and you're not harming Selby in the slightest  :luv:

you can still give him a tin of sardines as a meal on BARF, no problem at all.

Quantity depends on your dog - if you have a young dog that has energy to burn and who tears around then 1/2 a tin with kibble is fine.  A whole tin as a meal as Coco has is also fine.

Jarv gets a whole tin in tommy sauce with sometimes a kibble chaser (very small portion) as it's not quite enough for him  ;)

Honey tends to get one tin as a meal (either in spring water if I've been to Sainsburies, or in Tomato Source if I haven't!).

Fernie gets half a tin once a week with her kibble, however I reduce the amount of kibble slightly, but then she is a couch potato  :shades:

The other half goes to the lab and I don't reduce his kibble as he is constantly on the go   ::)

mmmm I am sure it is meant to be the other way round - working cocker constantly on the go and lab a couch potato  :-\ :005:

Molly (Cocker) and Snowy (JRT) share a tin once a week mixed with slightly less than usual kibble - - they love them Molly keeps going back to check there is none left in her bowl.

I get the ones in oil because I don't like tomato sauce - - is that mean.

Mine usually get a tin each with a raw egg as a meal. I normally buy the ones in tomato sauce.
