Hi,
I have been giving Jack a tin of sardines in tomato sauce with an egg once a week since we started on the BARF diet, but the other day Salisbury's had fresh whole sardines on offer so I bought the last two and put them in the freezer. My question is, can he have them whole (head, bones and all)?

Yes!  If he will eat them, it is fine to give them whole - Coco has had them a few times and ate the lot - I did chop them up a bit though.  And I fed them outside as they were a bit messy and pongy  :o

Woody loves fresh sardines and crunches them up heads, bones the lot!  Yum Yum.  And all good omega benefits for their joints and coats as well.

The Boys had a tin of sardines each in tommy sauce this morning, practically doing headstands to get the last piece of sardine out of their bowls :005:

Me too!  My trainer recommended using sardines as a change to tuna when I make "tuna" bread - never thought of giving it as a meal before! ph34r

Maggie had sardines with an egg (including shell) for dinner last night - she loves it, can always tell because she feels the need to come see me after and rub herself all over my sleeve - lovely!!!  :005:

Roxy has the little rectangle tins of Mackrel either in Tomato sauce or brine, I do a whole tin and half her normal kibble.  She loves it but she doesn't have it too often as it stinks!!

I have often read that people make home made "tuna bread" as a treat for their dogs. How do you make it or where can I get the recipe? I need to know a wide variety of different "fishy" treats that are out there as Jack is allergic to all meat except turkey and fish!! (Although he hasn't been tested for rabbit) So if anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly received. My local independent pet shop does dried sprats (I think that's what they are, but my do they smell  ph34r) and I have also got some treats from fish4dogs (following advice from other COLer's  :D ).

Jack had tinned salmon this morning as a treat/change with some home made mixed veg & fruit (it was my first "blend"), he loved it, thought he was going to lick a hole right through his bowl he was there for soooo long :005:

Here you go Corry, found this on line somewhere, it's very easy to do, takes minutes and most importantly Monty loves it (going to try sardines next time)!

Quick as a flash Tuna Bread
•   1 tin of tuna in oil (if you have brine, drain it and add some oil or water to the mix)
•   80g plain flour
•   1 egg
•   sprinkle of garlic powder
Put the tuna, garlic powder and egg in a bowl, mix with a spoon. Then add the flour gradually until it all binds together (add less or more flour as you need).
Pour onto a microwaveable plate and put in the microwave for 4 minutes, turn onto a wire rack to cool and cut into small training sized cubes.

I don't use a microwave...I assume in the oven it's gonna take some more time...
