Suddenly started to wee inside!!!!
« on: September 30, 2010, 07:05:32 PM »
Well, I am astounded at Rocky the last 2 days. He is just over 2 and has never ever wee'd inside the house even as a puppy, we were very lucky, he always wanted to wee on grass so toilet training was never an issue for us......but....... yesterday he wee'd on my sons bed - not a trickle but a full blown wee to the point I have had to bin my sons quilt, I put it down to perhaps dreaming in his sleep or a one off, but I have just gone upstairs to find he has cocked his leg on the landing and wee'd up the wall and consequently on the carpet!!! This is even though he has been in the kitchen for the last hour or so with me and the back door is wide open and he has been trotting in and out!
The only change in our household for Rocky is that 2 weeks ago we had a new 3 piece suite and this time I am determind not to let him get on it and to be honest he has been very good and has got off when commanded to and now just hops in his basket - do you think this has anything to do with it? Is it his way of telling me he's not impressed with the new house rule? I don't want to start crating him what shall I do?

It may be scent marking. Hes weeing up things and on beds (that often smell quite strongly of their owners). Which sounds like typical scent marking to me.

I bet the new smelling sofa has unnerved him a bit. New sofas can often smell chemically as they use treated (fire retarded and often stain proof) fabric. Do you have a smell thats more familiar to him that you can use in an attempt to mask it? (im thinking something like fabreeze or a plug in air freshener). Or even just open a few windows.

Im sure it will become more familar to him as he gets used to it.

If this is totally out of character for him, I think I'd want to run a urine sample to the vet to rule out a urinary tract infection. That can make them do this too  ;)

that would be my first course of action too. The only time Mali has weed in the house since being house trained is when she had a water infection.

Thank you so much - I will be taking him off to the vets tomorrow to get that checked out because it IS totally out of character, I just thought maybe I'd upset him by kicking him off the sofa!! If it turns out he's OK, I shall just have to febreze everywhere   Thanks all x
