What can I use as a deterent without harming her.

Came home today to find KP has eaten the corner off the pine dresser (never done this before, must be because the food cupboard now has 24hr armed guard and mines!)

So, covered chewed corner in english mustard to stop her doing it again......or so I thought.....she is now led down licking the mustard off!  Blurry Dog!

So, what can I use that will stop her but not harm her.  Must say I did think of bitter aloes.  That pet spray doesn't work either BTW.

Sorry, but I'm not aware that any supposed deterrent actually works - the only way is to make sure she can't get to what you don't want her to chew, ie by putting up a pet gate, or crate training her.

Eek - I remember those days with Murphy the skirting boards were his treat of choice.  I heard pepper works.

Ooo-er naughty Krumble! Morgan overcame most deterrents as a pup, we were recommended tabasco sauce but unfortunately he loved it!  

We did find that the Canac training spray worked well, it contains citronella which made him sneeze   Actually we've just dug it out again from the back of the cupboard to deter one of the cats from clawing our new stair carpet

When Harv did this I just covered the area up toi distract him, used things like a glass placemat, box etc and that was all we needed...

Thank you.  She only does it when I am not here and there is no where else to shut her other than the kitchen so I can only hope that she starts on the otherside to even it up a bit!

When Penny was a pup we spent most of the time in the dining room and kitchen, with all books, cables etc either barriacaded off or out of reach ( I wasn't too bothered about the furniture as we have ... erm ... a shabby chic approach to that ). However, the one absolute no no was the cable from the freezer to the socket, which I couldn't cover 'cos of a door that swung open near it. I tacked it too the wall and rubbed neat washing up liquid on it and (touch wood) she never went near it. I'm not saying it's the best way to deal with it, but it did work.
I have read about a bitter apple spray, but don't know if it's any good.

I was told that cutting a chilly in two (legth ways) and rub it on the area. Never tried it but ive heard good things about it

Paint on some "stop and grow" nail paint, it tastes foul

What about a little lavender oil put on the corner - have not tried this one myself but have a friend who said it worked for her

Brie can be a pain around food and I once deliberatley let her grab some jalopinos off my plate thinking it would teach her a lesson, she loved them

I used Pet Behaviour Training Spray from Wilkinsons, its just bitter orange and worked brilliant to stop Alfie bitting the dinning table legs

We use the canac spray as Elaine.H mentioned, it does work! It stopped him from ripping wallpaper off the walls in our old kitchen (little ) and has also stopped him from pulling the foam stuffing from the durabed xxx

I really worked on teaching Alfie to adore his crate, which is where he goes when i'm not home, I prefered that option to him chewing my stair spindles
He is now addicted to his crate!
