puppy to junior

Hi!

Alfie my black working cocker will be 6 months old tommorrow bless him, where has the time gone?

Can anyone help as i am not sure when i should move Alfie from puppy to junior food please?

If you ask me Junior food is a bit of a gimmick on the part of the food manufacturers   ph34r  This question comes up quite regularly and most people seem to change straight onto adult food at about 6 months  ;)

I think i changed Hattie to the junior food at around 6 months and then on the adult at around 12.

Caoimhe is 7 months and is on JWB junior, I put her on that about a month ago. I will likely start transferring her onto adult at around 9-10 months. Depends on how she is getting on, she is thriving well on the junior and barf.

Me too, a lot of good food brands don't have a specific 'junior' version, I also always put mine straight onto adult food at 5.5-6 months.

I changed Smudge from Burns smallbite to Burns Adult from about a year, this was mainly tho cos he had a dicky tummy and the smallbite suited him, being a bit of a scaredy cat regarding food changes,  I kept him on smallbite longer than necessary.

Katie changed from Puppy/Junior Naturediet to the adult at about 7-8 months (I think - seems so long ago now  :o )

I've been told to put on adult at 12 months - whats with the 6 months, surely they're a puppy still  :-\

Royal Canin's Junior is suitable from 2 months old, and Arden Grange have a Weaning/Puppy product, and then a Puppy/Junior product which is suitable from 8 weeks onwards. Alfie's been on the latter for the last couple of months, and I am now slowly changing him over to the Adult range, as he is near the top end of his "desirable" weight. He's on half and half at the moment (at 7 months old) and I will change him over fully to the Adult range in the next couple of weeks.

Scarlett is on natural dog food puppy and is 10 months...
With 25% protein and 11.5% fat I think is allright for her.
We change to adult at 12 months.
If she had a brand like royal as she had some months ago before we change to NDF I would also move to adult earlier...

I waited until 12months before putting Alfie onto adult food. When I went to exchange a bag of puppy food I had left over for an adult one I was told I could, but that he would still be fine on the puppy food as there was more goodness in it than the adult food.

As far as I understand it, there is more protein in puppy and junior food to help with their growth so it would probably make your dog fat if you continued to feed when grown  ;)
