We have a puppy with entropian and have been given mixed advice as to when is the best time to put the sutures in to reposition the lower lids. He has perfect corneas and we are using visco tears gel  to keep the eyes lubricated. I have spoken with several vets, and some say to leave til 12 weeks when the face is more developed and some say best to do it now. Is it best to go to opthalmic vet or is it simple enough to let my local vet do this procedure? Any advice would be much appreciated    Thnx

Jenny had entropia in one eye and she had electrolysis and that was successful as it wasn't severe. Hoping your pups eyes will be fine.Joan and Penny

I noticed it when she went for her last vaccine as she had a watery eye we tried drops but it was my vet that did it .

Could Jenny have had distichiasis rather than entropion? I know electrolysis is used for distichiasis (to remove the extra lashes) but haven't heard of it as a treatment for entropion :-\

I would certainly recommend an ophthalmologist rather than a general vet.  I have been through this with my own dog and - frankly - the general vet made a bad situation worse and the ophth. had to put the whole thing right.  Generalists simply don't have the experience and - more importantly - the hugely expensive, sophisticated equipment that the specialists have. It's not something you want to make a mistake on.  Also, I'm not sure about this but I would have thought your pup is a bit young for such a serious op as he is still 'growing in' to his face?  In your place, I'd certainly want the bet possible advice before taking such a drastic step. Good luck.

Fungus, the working cocker on the farm, had this from birth. I think he was about 3 or 4 months old when he had the op, but under the care of an opthamologist. Any eye issues must be seen by an opthamologist as vets have to specialise in this area to really know anything about it.

Hope that helps.
