Recall when other dogs are around....!
« on: September 13, 2011, 09:11:20 AM »
Have been taking Maisy out for walks for a few weeks now and when on our own she will come back to me if I call/whistle, but when other dogs are around her recall is shocking and she just won't leave her 'new friend'!

I assume this is just a puppy getting over excited about new dogs but wandered if anyone had any tips as it's getting a bit tedious having to walk after her when she ignores my recall! ph34r

...It seems the norm with young pups...Only last night Over the park are little Gemma saw some one else walking up the pathway through the park and all my training went  pear shape...I was tweny feet away from her she spotted this other dog walking with its master on the path way and away little Gemma went.... >:(

The whistle just did not work no matter how hard i blow it...But a squeekey toy does work that she plays with in doors.....So i use that if she does not pay attention to the whistle....And its seems to be working...

I'm still working on Odie's recall at 21 months old ph34r  He was no problem until he hit 6 months old and from then on, NOTHING will recall him from another dog, it's very hard work and I'm trying a variety of things to tempt him back....  I'm also trying to teach him 'stay', which we've never been able to do, which would help him not bogging off in the first place :P  There's lots of info on here for recall training including a sticky post.
Both taken away from us far too soon. x  RIP Angels Odie & Archie, causing mayhem at the Rainbow, no doubt!
