Despairing today

I am reading these posts and preparing myself for the arrival of Rufus-it's good to think about the challenges that await as well as the good bits.

I am certain though that it is just a question of time-Pebbles sounds lovely but I suppose with every puppy there will be troublesome days.

Hector seemed to finally click at 6 month and now he is very good - out for wees at 11pm and does not need to go out till 10am - so plenty of lie ins  

I was worried too as we worked harder with him and 2 of us were there full time but he was much slower than our previous  2 dogs who seemed to 'get it'' much younger

Don't worry, lots of us have been there and know how you feel. It will get better I promise, I thought Charlie would never get to grips with toilet training and was at my wits end, it was like a switch went off in his head and he just suddenly got it. I am having the same battle with Dexter, back door is open he's playing in the garden but comes in and does a wee in the middle of the kitchen 

OH reassures me on a regular basis that "yes Charlie really was like this too" with the shark mouth, wee-ing indoors and general nortyness. Pebbles will get there

Remember Pebbles is just a baby and not yet fully in control of her bladder. This will pass very soon but there is no set time.

Lucy when a puppy didn't like the cold so would go out in the garden then rush in and wee. I had a special phrase "Hurry Up" and when she weed outside I would say it when she did her business, then an immediate treat . She soon learned if she wanted in then a wee was required.

So sorry to hear you're finding it tough. We're only just starting out on our puppy journey and have had Bear less than a week, you'll probably find in a month or so's time I'll be the one tearing my hair out and you'll be telling me to hang on in there because it will all be worth it.

I remember there were days when my children were babies that I would have quite happily given them back to the breeder if that had been an option    I'm sure raising a puppy will be no different!

Wow, what a lovely place this is.  Thank you so much for everyone's kind words.  They really helped - to know this is just normal.  I really was starting to think I was doing something wrong.  TBH it's not helped by the fact that I work part time - and on the days I'm working she comes to work with me.  I thought this would be great as never left for long periods of time but it is even harder work as she has to get used to 2 places and also have to watch her like a hawk in my office as computer wires etc are so tempting   

I'm at home today and the sun is shining, patio door open and she is sitting on the thresher looking adorable.  Pity I can't retire yet   

Puppyhood will soon be over I know which is a shame in some ways.
