Buddy's First Day

Well. he's here at last.

We are gradually getting used to each other. He's a fantastic little chap, pretty laid back, and VERY loving. Seems to be especially keen on Steve, he's like velcro!

Sad to say he's a bit of a wuss about going out into the garden, hated last night's rain, not too keen on the cold today.

Confession!!! Although I know many COLers aren't too keen on the idea, we decided that we would use half of his crate as a loo area. We just felt that for us, getting a good sleep was worth slowing down the house training a bit. But to be honest he seems to be already half trained (we just need to recognise the noises he's making when he wants a wee!), and his breeder was doing that with them anyway.

We ended up getting the bedtime routine a bit mixed up last night, hope to do better tonight. In the event, he howled for about an hour. So distressing! But we decided to leave him a bit longer then he just went quiet.

That wasn't good enough for me though, I slept quite badly and eventually woke fully at 5.30, stupidly worrying that he had died overnight or something. Not that I'm one to worry or anything!!!!

I went downstairs and made a point of going to the kitchen first before going to the family room where Buddy sleeps. He was fine of course!! Think I must have woken him, but he gave me his first bark as I opened the door of his crate. No wee or poo on the paper either!!!

He has short bursts of activity, but he's really a bit of a lap-dog. Only a baby, I know.

Eating well for alternate meals, but expected that.

Took him for a short walk in the rucksack today, hated it, just shook and whined all the way. May just leave him in his crate for the school run tomorrow. I think it won't be much different to him than the overnight separation.....what do the experts think????

Have taken some photos, all with Steve's legs under him so far!! Will post when I get a minute. Busy life, huh?

WE LOVE HIM TO BITS ALREADY!!!! :P

Aah what a cutie! Congratulations on your new addition.
Persevere with the night time routine it will be worth it in the long run. One thing we wished we'd done with Paddy is take more photo's when he was little, it's hard to remember how tiny he was.   :)

Great to hear he's settling in so well, Annette - he did really well for his first night, didn't he?  :)

Molo shook the first few times that we took him out in my arms - and you should have heard the noise he made in the car when he was harnessed on the back seat for the first few journeys  :o

I'm no expert, but I would persevre with the trips out; although maybe the school run might be a bit much for him straight away as there will be loads of noise and hands wanting to touch him - you may not be able to give him the reassurance he needs either if you have the kids to think about as well. Maybe aim to take him next week? We were lucky as we got Molo during the school holidays, so the nursery my daughter goes to was really quiet - he was a pro by the time the big kids started back  ;)

I know that in an ideal world pups should be left for very short periods of just a few minutes at first, but I am sure that he will be OK on his own in his crate while you drop the kids off - maybe give him a chew toy to keep him entertained and he might not notice you've gone until you get back?!

Good luck, and I look forward to the pictures!
