Salmon Trimmings
« on: November 22, 2011, 07:12:52 PM »
I have seen large cheap packs of fresh salmon trimmings on the fresh fish shelves at Morrisons.

My question is.....can i feed this to Ruby? i have a hazy memory of someone saying (Nicola i think) that raw fresh fish is ok for dogs to eat apart from salmon because of a certain bacteria it carries

Can someone enlighten me,thanks in advance  ;)

Pacific Salmon can carry a toxic parasite.... but most Salmon we get in the supermarkets is likely to be farmed anyway.

To be on the safe side, freeze it for 24hrs, which kills the parasite in question...   :D

It possibly was me but I was going to reply the same as Karma; raw farmed Atlantic salmon should be fine but I would freeze it before feeding to be sure, I used to interpret for a huge multinational salmon farming company and they did get cases of Rickettsia in their Scottish farms sometimes.
