Darcey's just bitten OH

Darcey has just bitten my OH! Basically she ran off and we found her in a neighbour's garden woohoo we found her then we go inside and I notice the smell......fox s**** but by this time shes in her bed and the living room is covered. OH goes to get her out of her bed for a shower but she bites him! She then stuck herself in the corner of her bed/crate and wouldn't come out. OH got the lead and put it on her to take her to the shower but she was acting terrified of him till she saw it was the shower he was taking her too! She's calming down now but what happened to my baby before we got her to make her that scared!

Could she have picked up that something was wrong from your body language or sound of your voices, re the fox poo now all over the house, perhaps. She knew something wasn't right and became scared, particularly if your OH had never put her lead on her whilst she was in her crate.  They like routine not sudden changes to it.

We set crates up as an absolutely safe haven... a dog's personal space... somewhere to retreat to when they are unsure and uncertain...
It's hardly suprising that she would react when someone tries to physically remove her from it... I know hindsight is a wonderful thing, but it would have been better to lure her out... or even wait a few minutes then call her...

You and your OH would have been stressed that she was missing.... Darcey will just have seen stressed body language, not knowing it was out of concern for her.  Also, her adrenelin may have been raised, either by her adventure, or she may have become uncertain about how to get back by the time you found her...

Be aware that adrenelin levels after a confrontation like this can remain raised for several days, so take extra care not to get into a confrontational situation with her.


Another thought... could she be coming into season??

She has had the lead put on her in her crate before when it was time for the vets (she doesn't like the car) I think it's as you said karma she was stressed we were stressed and prev owners husband hit her so she was scared. We did try lure her out 1st but she wasn't having it. All seems ok now no flinching or acting scared. All over us as normal. Don't know about her season. There's no tail action or swollen bits yet but she has been a bit whingy on an evening the past few days......maybe doesn't seem like 2mins since her last one but thinking back it could have been summer time.
