Can't believe the last couple of days. Had a wonderful day yesterday at the cocker club puppy and veteran do. Came home to news that my best friend Karen had "lost" her four and a half year old b&w American cocker, Kristopher and felt totally gutted. Didn't think things could feel any worse but..
Came in from shopping at four this afternoon and our Jemima was raunched up Thought she might have been jumping around too much or else had a belly ache. She ate her tea but gradually over the next few hours went off her back legs. I've never had any experience of bloat but I've heard it mentioned at shows, etc. Even though she had eaten her tea I knew that one of the first signs was being raunched up. I rang the emergency vet and rushed her there. By the time we got there she was completeley off her back legs. The vet feels that it could be one of three things (not bloat), meningitis, slipped disc, or a third thing with a long name which means that the spinal cord dies so far along and it means that having her "put to sleep" is the only option. The vet has pumped her full of steroids, antibiotics and anti-sickness drugs because she says the steriods could cause sickness. We have an appt at ten in the morning with our main vet which we trust with our lives so we are hoping that there is some more news then. She is at home on cage rest now and her little tail has never stopped wagging.
Could everyone just spare a thought for her please? We both dote over her, especially Phil (I haven't told him the third option as he is on nights and didn't want him having an accident a work with the worry). She is such a babe and a lovely happy go lucky girl.
