Something to think about As a result of a road traffic accident I had on the 3rd of January I feel the need to post on this topic regarding safety issues when transporting your dogs.
The accident was no fault of mine, a van decided to cut across 3 lanes of traffic on a dual carriageway to cut through to a petrol station on the other side (where there was a no right turn sign) and ploughed into the side of my vehicle. I was transporting a rescue dog at the time, and fortunately she was in a crate in my Focus estate car.
My friend and I had to be cut out of the car by the fire brigade who removed the roof ! Fortunately we only suffered concussion, bruising and broken ribs.
The dog was unhurt although she must have been shocked. I dread to think what would have happened had she been anywhere other than in the crate ? The crate was warped and no longer clips together properly but it protected her from being thrown around the car and causing more damage to both herself and to us, My car is a write off !
In the past I have transported my dogs in seat harnesses and soft crates, and behind a dog guard but after this experience I know I will never use anything but a proper crate
