In the bath... again!
« on: January 29, 2012, 06:21:14 PM »
Little Woody loves his walikes (proof on the puppy pictures board :005:) but it's ever so muddy round here this time of year and he often comes back caked in it and while he doesn't mind having a bath (too much) we worry that washing him too much might not be good for him. He stands up in shallow water & we try to just wash the mud off (legs & tummy mostly) leaving the rest of him dry. Is this ok? if not what's the alternative before he hits the cream carpets. (apart from going for the wooden floor)

We are doing the same at the moment. Just standing her in the bath and hosing the undercarriage  :005:. It's been so mild that all the mud that would normally be too frozen to make a mess is just everywhere. Also we have building work going on here at the moment and so the garden is just a sea of muddy paw prints.
I felt the same as you about too much shampooing not being the best of ideas.

I only thought earlier, roll on summer!

I've been mostly showering the mud off their legs and tummies, but Charlie was looking decidedly yellowish this morning and they got caked in mud so it was a proper shampoo job this  morning  :lol2:

You are all kind to your doggies. Hubby took max out this morning and hosed him off outside after. Mind you he loved it and made himself even wetter by trying to drink the water ang getting a very wet head!!

Ellie gets her legs and undercarriage showered in the bath every day.  The mud around her is unbelievable.  I keep a little bit of dog shampoo in the bathroom just for her legs as some days the mud is so black and sticky it won't just rinse off.  Luckily, after a good towel dry, she loves the hairdryer.  So every time someone shouts to me on our way home 'someone will be having a bath then', I shout back 'within 10 minutes of being home she will be back to how she was when we set off'.  I am beginning to sound like a parrot.

Gosh! Mine just get a towel dry and that's it! (Mind you we don't have any carpet downstairs)!

The mud drops off them once they've dried, so then its just a case of hoovering / sweeping it up!  ;)

Ours get the hosepipe treatment ph34r :005: they don't love it but within minutes they are inside next to the radiator so it's not all bad ;)

I have a hot water tap outside and a big bucket, they both get dunked in it and then one get hair dried and the other gets put in there Equafleece. What I don't understand is they go in ponds, mud and yet when they get home they don't like the nice warm water. :dunno:

Thanks for your replies all, seems that everyone's pretty much in the same boat as us. We'll continue enjoying our muddy walkies & having a quick rinse after :D

I think it's just over-use of the shampoo that you want to avoid, rinsing him over everyday won't do any harm at all :D

It's not the wet mud bothering me. It's as mine dry they scatter a fine layer of mud all over the house. Every time I sweep it looks like a moles dug through the floor! My next house will be a mud hut!

That will be fine its what i do with mine. I just use water as the vet told me not to use shampoo to often on them.

Always dry them as best i can this time of year cant be to good for them being wet and cold around joints etc
