Yes, definite differences here; Tilly doesn't stink but she definitely is of the slightly whiffy scruffbag/flies buzzing around her head variety even when she's been brushed/clipped etc. whereas Rodaidh, who I never have to do any grooming on other than paw trimming, is always silky sleek, shiny and sweet smelling. He gets really muddy on walks but he dries quickly and it just falls out so he's spotless again whereas Tills seems to stay manky and damp for days :005: Caoimhe thankfully also has a short, sleek and shiny coat type which doesn't stay dirty or smell at all although she's not quite as silky as Ro.

On the flip side though Tills doesn't moult but Ro and Caoimhe both shed hair like it's going out of fashion.

I hardly ever bath any of them, Caoimhe got one when she came back from her trainer's kennels last week and that was the first one since this time last year.

I can vouch for the sweet smelling Ro....but Jarv smells nice too even though he's got fluffy brown fur which holds on average a ton of water/mud/twigs....

My first 2 Cockers were a gold, Josh, and a black, Sam, both entire. Josh used to wade in mud and swim in dirty water but didn't smell too bad. Sam didn't like water or mud but always had a peculiar aroma and his own personal swarm of flies in summer :005:. He never had anal gland, lip fold, skin or ear problems and had a really shiny coat, but he was just smelly. I used to wonder if it was because he was black but I've never met another Cocker of any colour that smelled quite like him.

William doesn't smell and is bathed maybe twice a year. He keeps fairly clean on walks because he doesn't swim or paddle. Louis is bathed every couple of months and sometimes is hosed in between times when he's got particularly dirty. He smells of pee in dry weather (he likes to walk around while peeing and his tummy feathering gets soaked) >:( and his ears smell really evil in wet weather because of all the disgusting stuff he dangles them in. I have to Hibiscrub them in between baths. One of his nicknames is Lou Ming Pong :lol2:

:005: :005: :005:  that's brilliant Elaine :D

Millie and Jennie both are a bit stinky - it's head end mostly though, despite regular tooth brushing.  I use a child friendly anti bacterial hand soap to clean their lips / chins and ears in between baths.  They probably get a bath once every 3 months (usually around the time the frontline is due :)

I wouldn't worry, Indy - blue roan, now 5 and a half years old smells like road kill and always has.  :005:

A bath releaves her stink for 3/4 days - persistant wet weather and her smell can burn your nostril hairs!

The vet says she's natuarally stinky and he doesn't know why.

Bless her little stinky hide, I can honestly say it's not a smell you can aclimatise to either, I alway notice it, I'd be more worried if I didn't 'cos then the house would stink too.  ;)

Beau is a stinker!!! He goes in every bit of muddy, wet, manky bit of anything on every walk!!! He gets a shower most days!!!(minus shampoo!!) I don't know how people manage to avoid it?! I try just leaving him and brush it out later but it doesn't really come out of his coat and he then looks stained. He seems to be like a sponge and gets wet easily and takes an age to dry. I try using his equifleece but it doesn't seem to dry him any quicker and he is wet still when I take it off hours later!!! pooey good job he is cute!  :005:

Fred is like RO and other than the occasional paw trim and ear brush gets v v little in the way of grooming, his does 'bathe' almost daily in manky ponds, the sea, or puddles if that is all that is available and yet he smells so much better than Kooki who stays out of of water, gets brushed twice a week and goes to the groomer every 6 weeks??? Even their paws smell different, his are sweet like digestive biscuits and hers smell more like porridge!! They eat exactly the same food and treats so no idea why she is smellier :005: :005:

With Smudge it varies - sometimes I notice it, sometimes not, when he had his unfortunate meeting the other day, I did notice a very strong pong of foxy - so can only assume it came from the other dog as it was where it grabbed hold of him.

Suzie, my border collie (now running at the bridge  :luv: ) -  if she was particularly worried about something, be it thunder, fireworks or whatever - would give off a strangely sweet smell.
Remembering Smudge 23/11/2006 - 3/8/2013, Branston 30/8/14 - 28/10/22, and Minstrel 24/6/13 - 13/8/24 all now at the Bridge.

Some of these are very funny  :005:

Alfie isn't too bad, gets a shower about every 4-6 weeks unless he rolls in something inbetween.  His feet smell like cheese though and the smelliest bit of him is his face but I guess that's the bit permanently in water and food.  He moults like you wouldn't believe though and I really do think that alters from dog to dog.  He smells doggy when wet but it tends to disappear when he dries a bit like wet wool stinks when wet but not when it is dry.

Mine have stinky feet but my solid black girlie definitely gets more whiffy quicker than my orange and white boy.  :shades:
