Crate wetting (advice needed)
« on: February 05, 2012, 01:45:55 PM »
Hi all,

We need some advice please? Oscar arrived home over two weeks ago and has been great with everything.  :D :D :D :D :D He's been really good with the toilet training as when were in the living room he goes to the door but if were in the kitchen we have to watch him closely as he does'nt indicate very well when he needs to go out. He's down to a couple of accidents a day (only pee)   >:D he's never pooped in the house though :D :D :D 99% of these are down to us missing the signs but it's early days and he's doing good with this!
The problem occurs when he's crated, he's taken to peeing in the crate on his bed?  :'( this is not just overnight, he's been quite good as were letting him out through the night but he did it yesterday when he was in there and we were in the same room as him?? He goes into his crate without any problems and is'nt left for any length of time alone. I've altered his crate today to make it smaller so he only has room to sleep in it and not use one end for toileting & one for sleeping in.
Were not sure if we are expecting too much from him as he's just 10 weeks old??
Any suggestions would be gratefully recieved

Still really early days.

Keep taking him out hourly, after play, after sleep etc.

If he soils anything just make sure it's cleaned or laundered thoroughly with either the stuff from PAH or biological wash powder - anything else might confuse them scent wise.  He mustn't be able to smell his toilet anywhere inside.

At night time he could probably go 6 hours before you need to take him out but it is down to the individual pup.

When he toilets outside, loads of fuss and praise. If inside just ignore but take him out straightaway.

Always stay with him in garden so you can catch the toileting and praise it.  I always wait a few minutes after my pup has done a wee to see if there is a poo to follow.

Loads of patience needed but in my experience by about 4/5 months they've usually got it.

At 10 weeks you are probably expecting too much, he is still a baby and will take time to learn. You have done very well so far. It's what puppies do.... ;)

Yep, the biological powder thing is really important else they can still smell the pee even if we can't  ;)
