Again with the crying at night!
« on: February 07, 2012, 12:20:55 AM »
Darcey has started crying and banging at night this past week. She's been fine ever since I started tucking her in but now she's gone back to wanting to join us in bed! So tonight I've put a blanket over her crate hoping this works. Any other ideas?

Go down, don't turn the light on, say in a firm, loud voice (you know what will scare him so judge it accordingly, I'm not suggesting he should be scared!) "Be quiet! Go back to sleep!" then leave. It worked for us after 2 or 3 nights.

Hmm, depends if you have got any neighbours who might be disturbed by her crying. If not, then I would opt for earplugs and just ignore her. She will soon learn that her crying will not get her any attention. ;)

She's still doing it 2 nights with the blanket over and she was great. But back to banging. We've just been ignoring her shes fed and waterd toileted and warm I know there's nothing wrong so just hoping she'll shut up eventually.

You have my full symapthy on this one. I was almost demented by our little 'house guest' who insisted on howling every night at bed time (proper wolf howling not just whimpering lol)

I tried everything from covering the crate to not covering the crate, leaving a radio on, leaving a light on.  On several occassions I even gave up and slept on the sofa I was so tired, but still refused to take her up the stairs.

We cracked it after 7 nights when Wisp wouldnt get out of the wee ones crate one night so I shut them both in together.  Bliss!  Two nights of sleeping together and all she needs now is her blanket (she still wont go in the crate without it).

I must add tho, that although the wee one is 18 months and was used to a crate, she had been a kennel dog so it was just trying to work out what was making her feel insecure. She's been here since christmas and is really coming out her shell now.
Good luck.  It'll be worth it in the end ;)

Just a thought have you tried putting something of yours in her crate with her at night?? you know something with your scent on like an old jumper this might just calm her down :-\ x x x

Well 2 nights of full undisturbed sleep seems she's got the message.
