After a bit of help please

Maddie was spayed last friday and after an awful 24 hours of crying in pain, we are now struggling to keep her quiet. She was having a phantom pregnancy before her spay, and had become very attached to her Mr Monkey ( who is almost as big as her) and makes a squeaky noise. The last few days she has become obsessed with all of her squeaky toys and is crying and pacing trying to get them to sqeak. We have tried taking them away from her but she is still running around crying for them. She seems so unhappy we don't know what to do for the best. If we squeak then she is happy but as soon as we stop she is howling and crying. What can we do? We have tried distraction with food etc, but don't want her to be so worked up so shortly after her spay. Any ideas guys? Thanks in advance.

I am no expert, but I thought that they usually only spay 3 months after a season and I'm suprised the vet has carried on on top of a phantom as her hormones must be all over the place, never mind the operation.

I would ring the vet for advice as she shouldn't be so upset/crying now.  You could try some arnica to help with any bruising and there are many homeopathic remedies that could help soothe her but I think you need to be sure she doesn't have an infection or something wrong.

Thanks Jaspersmum. It has been three months since her last season and we  did check with the vet that it was ok. He said it was a mild phantom pregnancy as she was still swollen and had a little milk. Really impressed with how she is coping after the op but just worried about her behaviour to be honest. It is quite distressing to not know what to do to help her best

Ahh sorry, I read it as she had only just had her season too..

I would still check with the vet though. 

I wonder whether something like Raspberry leaf (or CSJ Phantom raspberry) might level out her hormones a bit
