Coat King (again) sorry!!

I have read all the previous threads about Coat Kings but am still confused about which one to get 

Ruby has always been very fluffy, but since she was spayed in November she is getting even fluffier. She went to the groomer a couple of weeks ago for a "tidy up" so looks OK at the moment. The groomer advised me to get a stripping knife, but these seem to be used more for wirey coats from everything I've read?

So I am now thinking a Coat King might be a good option, but.....do I go for the 20 blade, 12 blade? As they are fairly expensive I don't want to get the wrong one.

Any advice please??

I too struggled to decided which Coat king to get as they are rather expensive. I  finally bought a 20 blade coat king and it is brilliant for getting rid of Milo's fluffy bits, got mine off Amazon last year for a good price.

Thanks Sue  I read all the past threads and some people were saying 26 blade, some 20, and others 12. I suppose it varies depending on coat type etc. but I was getting very confused  I will have a look on Amazon, thanks.

Hi my dog was Very fluffy so I got a 26 coat king and that works wonders on him his coat is now starting to look good. I also have a stripping knife which I also use but I find the coat king easier and to be honest I don't know what the difference is!

Thanks Kelly  My groomer did "demonstrate" the stripping knife and made it look easy. She specialises in Border Terriers though (she shows them) and after reading up about stripping knives I wasn't sure about them for Cockers? Think I'll go with the Coat King??

MY groomer demonstrated it to but I can't do it aswell as her so just stick to the coat king
I got mine off amazon its the cheapest place for all grooming equipment

Hi I loooove my Coat King , I am not sure the reason why but my breeder always used a 12 so thats what I bought??? But I think they recommend a 26? for Cockers, not sure what the difference is (apart from the number of teeth of course) I assume you get more out with a higher number but I really don't know, does anyone know? I am really happy with my 12 but am toying with getting a 20 or 26 just to see what the difference is. Would def recommend one though if you are not showing but like the show look

Thanks Jo, we aren't showing her (she's just a pet) but would like her to look like a Cocker! Don't really want to go down the clipping route. These Coat Kings are soo confusing

I tried a 26 at my groomers and it just seemed a bit wider, the 20 does the same thing and was cheaper.

I'd be lost without my Coat King.  I've got the 20 and it's doing a fab job of removing the fluff and leaving Toby's coat flat and silky, especially his back.  Got it from Amazon.

Yes i got the 20 coat king and find it excellent, i also bought the Spratts 76 spaniel comb which i use on a daily basis  ,that too is brilliant for stripping out the fluff

The handle is just your personal preference, it won't affect how the coat king works.

I have the 26 blade, it's so easy to use and works great for my two!

We have the 20 blade with wooden handle (from Amazon!) and I think I'm right in saying that you can buy replacement blades for the wooden handled one whereas the plastic one is considered to be 'disposable' ie you can't replace blades. Having said that though the breeder we got our pup from said she's had hers for years and never had to replace the blade anyway...

I have never seen a plastic handled one, is it a Mars one?, I would always go for a 'Mars' Coat King . I think a 20 blade one costs around £25. they are well worth it , I have had mine for nearly 3 yrs but my breeder has had the same one for over 20 and has replaced the blades only once, you really do get what you pay for in this instance
ETA have just found the Mars plastic handled one, it seems to have a changeable blade too , the only difference seems to be the handle, so it won't make any difference to how it works
So sorry just found another plastic handled one that doesn't have a changeable head, but to be honest if mine ever stops being effective I would jut change the whole thing I would imagine the replacement blades are not cheap?, as long as its a genuine Mars then I say choose whatever suits you
