Confused about stripping
« on: March 01, 2012, 10:19:39 PM »
Archie is a bit fluffy at the moment.  Very fine very soft hair but very fluffy.  My mum gave me her old furminator that they used for their golden retriever after she passed away but I have heard bad reviews on here of it so wont use it.  I have read about coat king but not sure if it is good to use or not.  I don't want to get him clipped and never have.  Is hand stripping better and how much on average does it cost.  Any advice please.  So many people comment on how beautiful his coat is but he is still a bit too fluffy after the winter and I think it would be cooler for him when the weather gets better.  I think the problem is, the more I read, the more confused I get.

Hi Catherine,

when George is stripped, he goes to a lady in Ashtead, she takes about 3 -4 hours on him and charges £30 including wash and blow dry. she would  also allow you to stay with Archie, if you wanted  :shades: Geoege loves her, she has the radio on in the back ground, very relaxed atmosphere. She works on a Saturday and usually does just one client a day, so you are not left feeling rushed. :D

Hi Catie74,

Have you also tried the comb with elastic band threaded through it trick?  I tend to use that and a spratts 76 comb (as well as finger and thumb) on Merlin rather than the coat king or furminator.

See you in April I hope :)

Mia, we will be there in April and hopefully my parents with their Ollie.

I think I am almost decided on getting the coat king, but now I don't know which one to get.  Archie is quite small (only 11kg) if that gives anyone anything to go on.  However, there also seems to be different types in each blade size.  I was looking at the value ones but what is the difference between those and the more expensive ones in the range?  If they do the same job then the value ones seem a reasonable price.

Here is a link to what I was looking at.  Any advice gratefully received.

I was looking at this one specifically as it suggests Cockers, but other people on here, from what I have read, are going for the 20 blade?
