Coat king advice (again...sorry)

After reading the threads on coat kings I bought one size 20. In my ignorance I thought it would come with full instructions................... silly person !
So chaps where do I use it, just on Cassies back or all over including her sides, legs and ears !? She hates it by the way but then hates any type of  grooming and grumbles all the way through.
I too was amazed at the amount of dead hair from her back alone and I brush her every day

uhmm .. I have 2.. a wider one, and the finer one ... I use the wider one where I want to leave more fur, and the thinner one where I want it shorter / sleeker ... does that make sense?   I can't remember the numbers and they are in the cold utility, where I don't want to go right now  

modified to say I have an 8 blade (wider one) and a 20 blade (finer one) .. so I guess the answer to your question is on her back, head, tops of ears, down legs

I have a size 20 and the instructions weren't very detailed.  The only things they said were do not use on head or more than once a week.  Also, comb in the same direction as the coat grows.  I use it mostly on Toby's back and sides.  He squirms about too much if I try and use it anywhere else.

OK, so now I have decided on the cpat king 20 blade, I seem to be coming accross a fine, extra fine and origional.  Any ideas?  Why oh why can't they just make this simple?

Is is easy to use? and am i right in thinking it does not damage the coat in the same way that the furminator can.  I have a furminator that was given to me by my parents after their golden retriever passed away in the summer.  I have used it once on Archie  was staggered at how much fur it took out but then read some dreadful reports on how it cut the coat etc etc and damaged it so I don't want to use it.  The coat king as I understand it does not do this?  Sorry to ask so many questions but I don't want to buy something that I can't use as it is expensive, so want to make sure I get it right.

I read exactly the same too about the furminator so I invested in the Coat King.  I've been using it now for about 5 months and it is getting Toby's back and sides nice and sleek and smooth.  I can't say for sure whether it cuts the coat or not, although it really doesn't look as if it does.  The instructions say to comb in the direction that the coat grows otherwise it will cut the coat.  If you are planning on showing I would handstrip, otherwise I am pleased with the coat king and it's doing a great job for us.

Thank you Neon.  I don't want to show Archie but I want him to look nice.  I have never and will never have him clipped so did not want to buy the coat king and find it has the same effects on the coat as clipping does.

No Catie, I promise it won't.  It removes all the dead, fluffy coat and leaves the nice smooth shiny coat.  I don't want Toby clipped either but I want something that looks like a show coat.  Just remember to  comb in the same direction that the coat grows - you'll be amazed at what comes out.  I've got a bit of a piccie I'll post in a second, you can see how Toby's coat is looking.

A couple of piccies just so you get some idea of how the coat king is leaving Toby's back and sides smooth and shiney.  He needs a tidy up elsewhere, but I've been concentrating on getting his back to look fairly good.  Not brill pics though unfortunately, he never stands still long enough!

Well I ordered my coat king on wednesday late afternoon.  It was dispatched yesterday and arrived today.  I have just used it on both Archie, my cocker and Roo, my Cavalier KC.  All I can say is WOW!!! Archie was a little freaked at first but quickly got used to it and really started to enjoy it.  Roo was loving the whole experience.  Both looking much better already.  I'm a convert

I was worrying about the Coat King cutting the hairs and it does kind of sound like it does when you're pulling it through, but it seems not from what people have said. The one question I have is this. Fraser is a dark blue roan. When I comb him, the white hairs which are stiffer (coarser?) eventually kind of stick out as they stay long and are not stripped in the same way as the finer black hair is. Is that supposed to happen or is this a flaw in Coat King technique?

I don't have roans so I don't know , but I do have 2 solids with completely different coat types. Belle is exactly like Toby above (Black with plentiful coat) and the Coat King works like a dream, she is 3 now and have been using it on her for 2yrs with no ill effects to her coat Monty is Red but his coat is much finer apart from his furnishings which are 'blonder' and fluffier, I find the Coat King works well on his furnishings and getting out loose hair on his back and sides but he doesn't need doing half as much as Belle and I find the Coat King slips over his coat as it is naturally sleek as he doesn't need it. Even though they both have lovely soft coats they are very different, it could be with a roan the Dark hair responds better to the Coat King its like you say the lighter hair is coarser and doesn't need stripping. The Coat King is not designed to keep hair short but to strip out the dead hairs that are making the coat dull and fluffy IYSWIM
