No it doesn't offend me.  Especially since just the other day I met a Manchester terrier and asked if he was a Dobermann puppy  ph34r  ph34r

I really don't care - I'm proud of my miniature german shorthaired pointer  :luv:

Everyone has a different perception about what they like in a dog and what they don't like and not all know their breeds.  Lets be honest here, there is so much variation in the breed and so many cross breeds that it would be difficult for even an expert to get it right all the time  ;)

Looking at  my worker/show cocker and my friend's show cocker, they look very different, so I am not surprised if people aren't sure what Nerys is (at the moment she is a hairy teddy bear  :lol2:)

Does it offend me - no not usually  :D

When Smudge and I are out, the people we meet (not always with dogs) normally say 'what a lovely, friendly, dog' and that is the best feeling.  :luv: :luv:

Remembering Smudge 23/11/2006 - 3/8/2013, Branston 30/8/14 - 28/10/22, and Minstrel 24/6/13 - 13/8/24 all now at the Bridge.

Not at all offended.  Not everyone is in to dogs and as long as my dogs sit when people stroke them that is all I care about.  My dogs are pets  The fact that they are show strain does not come in to it.  I wanted show strain for my own preference.  I guess if people did not know they were dogs I would worry  :005:

I'm not normally offended Charlie was often mistaken for a springer pup and when i explained he was a cocker I was once asked if I was sure because "they dont come in that colour" which did miff me a little bit, not because they thought he was a springer but that they thought I didn't know what my own dog was.

Mostly people stop and say how lovely they are and that makes me a very proud Mummy  :luv:

I don't get offended .. I'm happy with my springer puppy and my father and son cockers   :luv: :005:  Explaining it's Millie and Jennie .. "billie and lennie? aren't they lovely boys?" .. "no Millie, with a M .. Mil- never mind .. yes they are"  I obviously don't speak clearly enough  :005:

The father / son thing is one of the reasons I've started buying girlie collars from Dom / Brown Bee  :005: :005:

I suppose it all depends what character you are and what is said really.  When some Dad told his kiddie that Lyla wasn't a proper cocker I couldn't have cared less.  However when someone once called Chloe fat when she was bloated with the drugs she was on, I was heartbroken.

I suppose I'll have all this to come, but I reckon I'm already prepared. I'm constantly asked if my Irish Water Spaniel is some sort of doodle or poodle  :003:

Frequent comments about Roly ... She's very friendly isn't she?!!  :005: ... well, he is a bit of a girly-boy!
Because he's only small, they often assume he's a puppy, when he's actually older than both the other spaniels.
Nothing particularly to get offended over though!

Re size of dogs, there's a huuuuge springer goes into the park where I take the dogs, which isn't much smaller than Molly labrador, but then at the other end of the scale, Daisy sprocker's dad was only small & not much bigger than Barkley my other cocker (of average proportions  :005:).

I've occasionally been asked if Daisy's a puppy still, as she's only small ... no, she's a springer x cocker ... which apparently seems to confuse people, as the response is a puzzled look and an 'oh'!!

So not so much your character but the circumstance. Any character is likely to be very sensitive when their dog is suffering  :-\
