It doesn't really bother me that people don't know that my boys are WCS, unless they persist liike one lady, tying to tell me that it's very unusual to have a solid coloured Springer and it's even more amazing that I've got 2 of them >:( She wasn't convinced when I explained that they were WCS and her parting shot was "I'd check their pedigree's if I was you".

Another lady stopped to tell me that Indy was just the most beautiful Red Setter puppy she'd ever seen, but was so interested when I told her his breed. They've both been mistaken for Sprockers and Field Spaniels but generally most people ask what type of dogs they are and seem genuinely interested when I tell them. :D

I think that's it. It's the touch of arrogance sometimes that despite any explanation given they still think you need 'help' and/or are misguided and that they are right :-\

ive lost count of the amount of times someone has told me that my gypsy is an american cocker spaniel because of her coat........its amazing, so thick and her skirt would swing and sway to the floor if i let it grow that long....but shes clearly a show ECS when you look at her head.....ive even had to show someone her 5 gen pedigree so they believe me and even them they said "how do you know thats right???".....errrr because she came from good breeders/lines who have been doing it for years and wouldnt risk telling a porky for fear of their reputation......grrrrrrr rant over, sorry!!!.... ph34r

Yes lottielu, I agree it is the arrogance AND ignorance.  My aunt recently visited, and she has never owned a dog, but told me with great authority that my Flo could not be a pure cocker because she looks nothing like the cockers my parents had when I was a child.... This is because they were reds and golds and Flo is a fluffy coated orange roan... I didn't even bother to defend... Seemed silly to debate with someone who has no idea, but told my parents and their view was that my aunt has to have an opinion on everything and knows nothing about anything  ;)

it just makes me giggle! When jasper was smaller I was asked if he was a dalmation, a springer and even an english setter! I know his colouring is unusual but come on!!  :005:

I got TOLD this morning that my spaniel would grow much bigger cos Springers are big dog and her Dad has one (so it must be true) after I said she was probably just about full grown.

She was particularly quiet when I informed her that my dog was in fact a Cocker and would not get any bigger!!

It doesn't offend me at all.  People very rarely know what Barney is (Basset Fauve de Bretagne) but I have to admit to getting quite excited when someone does and usually spend ages talking to them about the breed!  Most people think he is a cross and when I say he's a Basset Fauve I think they often go away still thinking he is some sort of Basset Hound cross.  One couple sat outside a cafe were quite upset when I ruined their game - they had been betting with each other for ages as to what mix of breeds he was.

People usually know what Pippa is - she has an unmistakable cocker personality and bum waggle!

I have been asked "what breed is your dog" about twice that i can remember which didn't offend me i just thought the peeps were a bit ignorant as to me a cocker spaniel is a common well known dog  ph34r but that's just imo.

The only thing that could have offended me i suppose but didn't, was other peeps saying she is small.Tbh,i don't think she is but i have never measured her to see if she meets the breed standard  :-\ and i wouldn't care if she didn't as i never planned to show her.

If you have an unusual breed i would have thought it quite common to have people either hazard a guess or be totally unaware as to what it is.
People laugh at me because I'm different, but I laugh at them because they are all the same.

It always make me laugh when I hear people talking about Ben and Harry and suggesting that the 'old one' must be the young ones mum as they look so alike.  Its such a good job Ben dosn't understand  :005:

I've never been asked what breed Lady is, but several years ago, a man walked past us at the shops and said "What an ugly dog you have" ........ and continued walking! I think I was more shocked at the time at what he said and that it was a rude thing to say. Didnt offend me tho because I was shocked more than anything!!

However, on Wednesday evening, I met this gorjuss dog with the curliest coat ... I assumed it was some kind of poodle, so I asked the owner if this was the case, but he took the time to tell me that the dog is a Bedlington Terrier. He was just like a real life teddy bear!!!

My papillons are often mistaken for chihuahuas or more often pomeranians. Most are interested to know where the breed come from but there have been a few who seem offended when I correct them..

I just find it amusing. They are often the biggest toy group behind Cavaliers in shows but still very few know what they are.

What does annoy me is when people judge their temperament as snappy, yappy little dogs when I have found them to be the sweetest nature little things. If people take a few minutes to introduce themselves then Zara and Lexi soon win them over :005:

When people ask the wrong q about your dog? The postman commented this morning that Darcey wasn't growing anymore, I said no thats it. He said that she was small. I said she was breed standard etc. Is that a springer, worker, big, small. Does it irritate you? Someone else today presumed mine were workers, I think they're clearly show  it upset me when they were small but as time goes on I realise how little others know.

Why the hell would you be offended ?

At least the person in question is being friendly and showing a interest in you and your dogs ( which is more than a lot of people do these days )  Ok perhaps the person doesnt know what breed you have or anything about the breed - So what ?????

If someone said something that wasnt very nice then i could understand you getting mad but jeeeeezzzzz lighten up a bit
