New girl puppy
« on: May 28, 2012, 07:02:47 AM »
Hi, we have a 2 year old blue roan cocker bitch and are planning on having new puppy shortly.  We want to have another girl, but have heard that some breeds have problems with all girls in a house, or all boys.  Anyone know of any reasons we would have problems having a new girl puppy ?   Jess, our existing girl, seems well adjusted, and doesn't had major issues with other dogs, although she does like a bit of rough and tumble.  We're going to hav to make sure she doesn't get too rough with new puppy.  More interested in the sex issue.  (Jess has been spayed by the way and would plan to have new puppy spayed in due course)
Thanks

Lots of people will say ..dont have 2 girls/boys together ..others will say it not a problem. Personally I think it comes down to the temperment of each dog.
We have a nearly 7 yr old girl and at the end of last year became slave to a blue roan girlie Tilly who is now 8 months old...we always wanted 2 girls. Our oldest has been spayed since she was a pup and Tilly was spayed 6 weeks ago. We have no problems with either of them but they are completely different in nature/temperment. Erin is so laid back she almost horizontal...she is submissive to everything and lets Tilly get away with most things. Tilly on the other hand is very vocal...in your face...fiesty and will keep going until she gets what she wants ( well if we let her).
They have had a few spats but it minor...handbags at dawn type of thing..usually over a tasty treat....and Tilly always wins!
Most of the time they just get on with it...either totally ignoring each other or snuggled up together on the couch.

I have two girls although one is a cocker and the other a springer. They are three months apart in age, we got one at eight weeks and one at five and a half months (the first one was eight and a half months at the time). To start off everything was ok after about three months they started to fight and fought constantly for three months. Then every thing settled down and they have not really bothered with each other since.

Of course they were growing up together and hitting teenage together but wouldn't change it for the world.

I have 3 girls all different breeds and temperaments
Poppy - Basenji x Terrier = Tenacious, Fun Loving and independent.
Kiara - GAD x BC = She's the grown up one  :005: Protective
Lily  - WC = Just plain daft  :rofl1:

They just kind of 'go' together and get on really well, don't really have a cross word between them.  Not sure what would happen if I brought another one in with a similar temperament.  Lily would be fine I think but I don't think my house would survive  :005:
