2nd follow up specialist appointment for Willow....
« on: July 13, 2012, 01:31:42 PM »
Willow had her second follow up specialist appointment today for her meningitis.

He is really pleased with her progress  :D :D

Weve been limiting her walks etc but we can go to back to normal now without restrictions  :cool4: :cool4:

I did explain to him that when she is out and about she is full of energy and will just keep going and going if she could but after it where she would normally have a little sleep after and be ready for more she is quite fatigued often sleeping most of the day after if she has been out for the afternoon etc. He said not to worry at this juncture but for us to keep our eye on it.

We have another two weeks of the steroid dosage as it is and then we reduce it to the same amount dosage wise but only every two days for her to have them. He said at this time they can relapse so we have to keep a close eye on her.  :-\

She has gained a fair bit of weight but he said she still has a nice shape so again not to worry at this moment, he advised we give veg to fill her which we are doing anyway.  ;)

We have to go back in another 4 weeks and ring him in the mean time if she appears unwell again once her steroid is reduced further.

I told him about her being sick and sloppy stools last weekend and he doesnt think its to do with the steroid but more likely a bug but again for us to keep an eye open for it happening again.

Please keep everything crossed for Willows transitions off the steroids and here's hoping it is not problematic.  :D

Glad to hear Willow's progress is good!  Odie was on steroids initially along with his lifelong meds and my vet said she didn't want him on them for long.  Hope all goes well weaning her off them and she continues to improve steadily :luv:

Thanks Lesley  :D

He did say if she relapses he can give her something else but not steroids, he named several meds but I didnt write the names down!! When she dropped her dosage two weeks ago by 25% we couldnt tell the difference, ive got a good feeling she is going to be okay  ;)

So pleased to hear that Willow is continuing to make great progress  :luv:

What a relief for you Maddy that she is on the mend, what a worrying time it has been.  :-*

I know if Odie goes into "stressful" situations (ie kennels ph34r) I have to give him some of his steroids which I keep for such occasions.  Luckily, he doesn't seem to get stressed over much so haven't had to use them yet but it'll be nice to have Willow off them eventually.  Bet she's looking forward to nice, long walks too!

Maddy, it seems like you and Willow have been on a rocky road for ages and had more than your "fair share" of probs.  She's looking great though and I really hope you can wean her off the steroids as quickly as possible with no problems.  I'm sure all this will be a distant memory before too long.    :luv:  xx
