You can buy it online but you will need a prescription from your vet    Some vets charge for prescriptions but depending on where you buy it, it can still work out cheaper online

Just had a look at that site, wonder why they sell without prescription, they charge £3.99 + £2.99 delivery =£6.98. I bought (1) tablet from my Vet yesterday for £6.24, no apparent saving.

They also mention under their FAQ section something about additional credit card charges, and they don't give an address unlike many other online suppliers of Vet stuff.

I feel a little uneasy about that company.

Friends of mine from work use http://www.discountpetcare.co.uk.  They have never had any problems with the site.  Used for both Cat and Dog products.  I will be using this site too once I chat to my vet about worming and flea protection.

EDIT:  Online I always make payments with my VISA card so my purchases are protected.  I have been ripped of by eBay Sellers in the past and eBay is the worlds most visited web site.

True enough but there are greater risks with overseas companies not subject to our laws - Discount Pet Care appears to be hosted in the Netherlands and online reviews suggest some orders are shipped from Singapore, South Africa & other countries. I'd guess this is the reason there is no UK postal address or contact phone number listed & why some orders take a long time to arrive. I was concerned about this when I first used the site.  When the Milbemax arrived, I compared the lot numbers and the expiry dates on the packets with the information contained on the Milbemax which I had bought from my vet.  They were identical! so I was "happy" to give them to Toby.  I can't, however, vouch for any other med they sell as I haven't purchased anything else from them.

There are good reliable UK online suppliers of Veterinary products, and it's simply not worth the risk of endangering our cockers by supporting these dubious online outlets.

Here's another link with negative feedback about Discount Pet Care http://www.trustpilot.co.uk/review/discountpetcare.co.uk including goods being shipped from Singapore or not arriving at all. Personally I wouldn't use them because I'd be worried that the meds. might be fake.

I am a little confused, though, about  who/what necessitates a vet's prescription.  For example, Pets at Home sell Frontline (which is locked up and customers are invited to talk to an advisor).  I presume then this can be bought from them without a prescription?  Does anyone know for sure

Frontline used to be a POM (prescription only medicine) but isn't any longer and is available in lots of shops and online. I don't know why PAH keep it under lock and key.

Milbemax is a POM so can only be legally bought online if the purchaser has a prescription from a vet.

I get a repeat prescription from the vet for William's Optimmune, which he needs every day as he has dry eye. The prescription costs me £13, lasts 6 months and enables me to buy up to 6 tubes of Optimmune. I've been buying from http://www.petdrugsonline.co.uk/site.aspx?i=ho0 which is a licensed UK company based near Bath and pay about half the price the vet would charge me.
