Help!  I'm freaking out!! Just bathed Dexter and found this in his ear.....



Is this a tick?  Dex is our first doglet and we are not sure what they look like!!  ph34r

What should I do if it is a tick?  We don't have one of those tick remover things and I know I shouldn't just pull it out.  Will he be Ok till the vets open tomorrow?

I have some Fipronil in, which is his flea and tick treatment, so will give him a dose tonight!

It certainly looks like an evil tick to me  >:D

I always use an O'Tom but have a look at the sticky thread as I am sure that there will be something on there to help you to get rid of the blighter  ;)

yep..thats definitely a tick  :020:
personally, I don't have a tick remover either....I just take a piece of tissue hold the tick firmly and pull it quickly, this should remove the head as well (you'll be able to see it moving if you have got it all out)
If you don't fancy doing this then it will be perfectly fine to leave until tomorrow if you want the vet to do it

Yes, that's a tick. Don't panic. If you're feeling brave and have short fingernails, you can pinch it between thumbnail and fingernail right at the bit where it's joined to the ear, give a little twist as you pull sharply and nip it out.

I'm all on edge and can't stop scratching myself.  I can't do it myself and nobody else is brave enough - we are all feeling a little bit  :020:  I have already ordered an O'Tom for future  :fear2:

Don't worry about you they don't like us that much . It's the poor dog it's feeding on .  >:(

I don't like doing it either but over the years you wil get used to it . It's good you found it always best to check them over every day anyway .

You will need to get a bit of a stronger stomach as doing it yourself in future will be safe , easy and a lot less money than the vets.  :005:

It does look like a tick.Please do not attempt to remove it yourself unless using an O TOM.

An unsuccessful attempt at removal could leave the ticks head or mouth parts stuck in your dogs skin not to mention if the tick regurgiates which could lead to infection and worse.

I think a trip to the vet is your best bet.  ;)

Will be ringing the vets in the morning!  Annoying thing is we were only there with him at 5pm tonight for his worming tablet!  If only I had noticed it a couple of hours earlier  :buttkick:

Yes looks like a tick, I am the most squeamish person I know, all ypu have to do is take a deep breath....easier said than done, they do like us, but once it's fed, which it looks to have done it won't bother you, I think if I remember correctly they only feed once or twice a year, if iam wrong am sure someone let you know. I would leave it until you get an o tom and take him tomorrow to the vets.

I give selby Billy no mates, and touch wood he has not had any this year so far.....don't know if I should have said that....temptin fate >:D

You not got any doggy friends near you or even try your local pet shop - will save you a vet bill  ;) If I was near you I would do it for a cup of coffee  ;)

The vet might sell the O'Tom. That's where I got mine and if you feel brave enough to tackle i yourself, it would save you the consult fee. They are incredibly easy to remove with the OTom so don't worry.

They really aren't fussed, people taste just as yummy as doglets. I've had 3 on me at different times.  :fear2:
