Thanks everybody - I LOVE this website!  You are all little superstars! 

Will be ringing the vets in the morning!  Annoying thing is we were only there with him at 5pm tonight for his worming tablet!  If only I had noticed it a couple of hours earlier 

I've got an O'tom if you want to nip to Ayton for it??

Would that be OK if we did nip over?

It does look like a tick.Please do not attempt to remove it yourself unless using an O TOM.

An unsuccessful attempt at removal could leave the ticks head or mouth parts stuck in your dogs skin not to mention if the tick regurgiates which could lead to infection and worse.

I think a trip to the vet is your best bet.  

Don't worry about you they don't like us that much . It's the poor dog it's feeding on . 

Actually they do like us,there was a COL'er that had one near her nether regions once 

Ow poor person sounds very uncomfortable , thankfully if they get a choice they prefer dogs

Hee hee this thread is really making me giggle- I started one almost exactly the same and was saved by Theresa.
 Give it a few encounters and you will be a realy pro with the o'tom and moving on to posting in threads with you 'worst tick' stories.  I am not the COL'er referred to earlier in this thread but I did gain a 3rd nipple last summer when a tick latched onto me instead of the dogs

Yup, it's a tick. When you get your OTom tick remover, here's a little video showing you how to use it properly. Don't pull-twist!

Not so,they ignored the COL'ers dog and obviously preferred her,and for those of you who remember......poor sue  
I just think it's because dogs are closer to the ground and undergrowth and easier to attach to, though that makes the mind boggle how Sue got hers

Thank you so much to Wendy and her Daughter who did the deed for us  !! Poor little man yelped and it did take 3 of us to hold him down but the tick is no more!!!

I have to take a tick off my dogs most days at this time of year and that's despite Frontline and Billy No Mates! I think tick removal is an essential skill for dog owners, especially if you live in the country. Fortunately the wee horrors don't like me but my friend seems to attract them and has to take necessary precautions. I've read that they prefer people with type O blood

Get yourself an o-tom today, and don't risk leaving any of the head parts behind   

Ticks will still attach using Fipronil - they will eventually die once attached but they have to attach first.

Pets at home sell tick removers as do my vets (so yours might), it'll be cheaper than making an appointment anyway. Good luck

I have a two pack of tom o twister ready , bought them in from amazon just in case.

Wendy and her Daughter are my heros!!!!!  I have ordered an O'Tom from Amazon and it will be with me tomorrow so we are armed and ready!!!  I can't believe I hadn't already bought one in as I have everything for him!

I bought one but thankfully I've never used it. I also carry alergy tablets around in my bag as well just in case (OTT yes) - I in fairness only have them in my bag as I carried them around when we were on hols as we had no idea where we were (I did have a local vets number too ).
