I use frontline spray on my cats. The large bottle, 500ml, is £70 from my vets! I looked online and could get it for around £35-£40 plus postage, but needed a vets prescription. So, I rang up my vets, they said they could give me a prescription no problem, it would cost £7. But, they needed to see one of the cats first, and the appointment cost would be £24! So with the cost of the appointment and the prescription, I might as well just buy it from the vets!!

I done a little more digging around, and found the spray on a french website, no prescription needed, it is exactly the same as I would buy from the vets or in the UK, for I think, £45 delivered! It was here a week later! I can try and dig out the name of the website if anybody wants it?

Regarding the ticks Jane - my two only ever seem to get them if they have been in an area with sheep around. I reckon we get about 10-20 a year but they are easily removed with tweezers - I just check them frequently

I don't like using lots of chemical's on Bob
i use Billy no mates for fleas and ticks, and get him tested for worms and lungworms

I am 'testing' a herbal flea collar on Smudge - as I have difficulty myself with the chemicals  in the usual deterrents. I have only had it on him a day. (I used to use frontline regular but it was losing its effect) I also use a flea comb and a bowl of boiling water to catch and kill any of the little blighters

Thank you Jan, I was thinking they might be more prevelant (sp) in a farm area, countryside etc.
We live on the coast and Riley,s walks are mainly on the beach, seafront , parks etc, but will be aware in the country if/when we go.

We usually buy advocate online from Viovet but having run out we just had to have an emergency dash to the chemists (Co-op) to get something to treat a flea infestation after the dogs played with my sister's dog this morning who is up to visit and has brought some little passengers with her.  I ended up buying Ectoline which has the same active ingredient as advocate and frontline but is cheaper.  Hoping the dogs haven't caught many and the Ectloine will quickly do the trick.

My sister's poor dog Poppy has loads.  Luckily, I had some advocate left over from when Pippa was a puppy and as Poppy is a small pug cross we have treated her with that.  My sister had been treating her every four weeks with Bob Martin spot-on, which demonstrates how ineffective that is.
