Pork ribs ok?
« on: October 16, 2012, 11:25:42 AM »
Quick question for knowledgeable raw feeders. Is it ok to feed raw pork ribs?
Barney's normal diet includes raw chicken wings but we've just got some ribs fot tea and I wonderedif its ok for him to have a couple raw.
Thankss

No idea - except to say that you never see pork flavoured cat/dog food so maybe there's a reason why not?

Pork ribs are fine to feed - although as with anything it depends how well they suit each individual dog. There are a few pork-based foods available, Burns do a pork and potato kibble.

As has been said, pork is fine.  Coco has pork ribs regularly with no probs - I do freeze them first though but that may be over cautious.  I do the same with chicken wings and carcasses if I get fresh ones.  ;)

Some dogs may not tolerate pork - Coco gets the squits when she has lamb so, it is trial and error  ;)

Not over cautious at all, all meats and fish that you feed to your dog should be frozen first.

I bought Ruby pork ribs as part of her raw diet and they were the only thing that i had my heart in my mouth watching her eat.
she kept passing the rib from one side of her mouth to the other and it took her a while to crunch it and i'm sure she swallowed the last third.
I think i shouldn't have got her king pork ribs (morrisons) as they were rather large, maybe i should just get the usual ones as i haven't been brave enough to let her have another once since,it really did scare me  ph34r

Ruby has had burns pork and potato.  ;)

People laugh at me because I'm different, but I laugh at them because they are all the same.

A woman at work is clearing out her freezer and offered me pork loin chops, would they be ok?, would you cut the fatty rind off or leave it on?.
thanks

ps, she also has skate wings?

I would have the skate wings for me - they are yummy!  ph34r :005:

A bit of fat is fine but I always limit it because of the risk of pancreatitis - have heard of a few dogs getting it when they have had a lot of fatty stuff in one go  :-\
