When equipment fails.
« on: October 07, 2020, 03:00:32 PM »
I went on a run today  :clapping:
...involuntarily, but kcals burnt still count  :005:

Started as a lovely walk in an area where all dogs have to be on leash. Not a problem since Laurië is almost always on a leash after loosing most of her hearing and vision. Currently using an 8 meter cheap flexiline type to give her as much freedom as possible without the fuss of a long line. She was running ahead of me, waggy and happy and energetic. I was thinking she was very far from me all of a sudden, looked down and realized the line had snapped and I was just carrying a useless plastic box no longer attached to anything  :lol2:

What do you do when the waggy tail of your mostly deaf cocker disappears around a bend in the distance? You run! I had no chance of catching up to her as she is much faster than me. I started to worry about her meeting children on the road, she can go from happy to scared really quick if strangers approach her. But luckily she has always been rewarded for checking in with me on walks so she did stop and look around for me after a while. I managed to get close enough for her to be able to see my recall signal  :luv:

I might invest in better equipment next time :015:

:lol2: That reminded me of when we took our previous dog, a young rescue, to local restaurant. We tied the lead the table leg and were just about to start on dessert when the chef emerged from the kitchen with Biggles in tow.....He‘d chewed clean through his new leather lead and tip pawed his way to the kitchen totally unnoticed!
Glad to hear Laurie‘s keeping you fit!!  :005:

:lol2: Biggles sounds like a clever dog! I hope they gave him a meatball or something before escorting him out of the kitchen  :005:

I've recently started doing with Missy as she's going deaf, its definitely better to be safe than sorry. Id catch the old girl anyway so its no big deal with her.

However with Bailey being a rescue i'm worried he will run off - No way i'm catching him. I'm looking for a good quality retractable 10m lead if anyone has any recommendations please let me know. The long line is great for a single dog but im spending more time untangling than walking at the moment.

This might fit the bill.  It is designed for the larger dog or a small horse  :005: going by the description, but it is the length you are after.

That did make me chuckle Mari, I could just visualise you sauntering along enjoying the peace and quiet and then the realisation strikes!  Alls well that ends well.
