Title: Benji
Post by: lexi on May 23, 2009, 05:15:47 PM
Benji is an eight year old Cocker. He weighs six kilos.

http://www.cocker-und-setter-in-not.de/forum/files/k_dsc_1608_586.jpg

His family decided they couldn't be bothered with him anymore but since the local shelter charges a fee for incoming abandoned animals, they decided to just leave Benji in their garden and forget about him. He survived on rainwater and after who knows how long the neighbours reported his owners to the local authorities. He was then taken to the shelter. We (German Cocker rescue) were able to place him in a foster family in Germany. He went to the vet's yesterday and it looks like he's going to be ok. :D
He is absolutely flea infested and his foster mum has had to clip off the matted fur on his ears. Here he is with one ear done: :005:

Poor little soul  :luv:

I don't understand how people can neglect animals like that...  >:D
I'd like to see them surviving on rain-water  >:(

Hopefully he will find his perfect home and can forget about the wastes of space who failed him!  :luv:

OMG this is so distressing! I am furious and crying at that poor little boy's face!

How could these people look out of their windows and see Benji starving to death, day after day? >:D >:D >:D

Their punishment should be very severe (I daren't say what I would do to them , but it wouldn't be pretty and I would have no qualms about it whatsoever).

Thank god, he is safe now. I hope he is surrounded by love for the rest of his life :luv:

If he can't be rehomed in Germany there's no reason why he can't be microchipped, vaccinated against rabies, blood tested, and issued with a Pet's Passport.  This would take six months, and if it is possible I'd be willing to collect him for you.

Here's our miracle boy with his foster mum in the garden today:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eF9_vQSeFoc

Amazing when you consider he's only been in Germany since Wednesday!

If he can't be rehomed in Germany there's no reason why he can't be microchipped, vaccinated against rabies, blood tested, and issued with a Pet's Passport.  This would take six months, and if it is possible I'd be willing to collect him for you.

Benji received all the necessary vaccinations (rabies included) last Tuesday before he left France for Germany.

Robbie34 you had a Benji too, didn't you?

Yes, I lost Benjie in 1998 when he was just sixteen.  Benji looks very much like him.

I'm off to France with Charley on Tuesday.

As I mentioned in my previous post, if a permanent home can't be found in Germany for Benji, I am willing to travel there and collect him for Dog22.  Where is he in Germany?

This is Benjie when he was about six.

That video was eye watering.  You wonder at the sort of people who could treat an animal like that; and Benji is such a loving little dog. I liked the way he puts his head in the foster-mother's chest.  Charley does that when he sits on my knee.

Poor little Benji, I hope he can be found a permanent, loving home.

What a really lovely video. He seems so well behaved and such an incredably loving little chap. How could these horrible people have done this to this poor lad.  :'( It really is disgusting.  >:D I really hope he finds his forever home very soon.  :D Possibly with Dog22.  ;)

Watching that brought a tear to my eye (in a good way).
He is still so trusting of humans and longs for affection - it was lovely to see him cuddling in to his foster mum like that.  And his tail didn't stop wagging, and he wasn't put off eating when the other three doglets were around him either.
I really hope he does find his forever home in a loving environment with someone.
It'd be nice if we could keep an eye out on his progress too.

My initial reaction was jsut to scream at the thought of yet another dog made to suffer at the hands of selfish humans, then I saw the video of him having a cuddle realising it was ok, going back for another and another and giving the world famous cocker kiss in return... at which point I cried... I'm such a woos!!

I am so pleased this little man is being looked after and hope he finds a forever home soon!!!

I've only just seen this thread - words fail me about the cruelty :012:

To see that little boy giving such lovely cuddles says volumes about him - that he is so sweet and gentle and loving after what he's been through is incredible  :luv: :luv:  I also think that although he got all the food he was trying very hard to be polite and give a paw and sit.

Whoever gets this boy will be so so so so lucky  :luv:

What a beautiful little lad.  :luv:  I so hope that he gets all the love and care in the world after being so horribly neglected.  Are they being prosecuted?  To think of him at only 6kg boggles my mind.  Even tiny Alice weighed in at 8kg when we first got her and she was then a bag of bones.  I am so glad that he is safe and cared for tonight - I only wish that they all were.

Thank you Pam and Tracie for wanting to adopt Benji but Cocker und Setter in Not would like him to stay closer to "home". They do both pre- and post-adoption homechecks and that way if, for some reason, the dog cannot stay in its new home it can come back to its original foster family. We do hope to find a family for Benji in either Germany or Austria. I never thought, when I posted on COL about Benji, that someone in the UK would want to adopt him. Thank you all again for your compassion. I'm sure that the future will be bright for Benji (he's already gained 3 kilos in 10 days!)

Just gone through the whole thread & video - what a lovely little chap. After all that has happened to him, he is still so loving and forgiving - it always amazes me how dogs bounce back after the terrible times they've had.  Such good work Lexi.

Oh my lord, what a journey.  Poor Benji  :'(  and his previous owners  >:D  how could they keep him in the garden and watch him starving  >:( >:(  speechless

The video is such a lovely one to watch, his tail just never stopped wagging & in between cuddles he was making sure that his mum's ears were lovely and clean  :005:  which is what Bluey does, very very helpful  :lol2: :005:

Seriously, the transformation is amazing, his coat is glossy and the weight gain is fantastic.  He would be a blessing to one lucky family and will repay them a billion times over with his genuine love  :luv: :luv:

I am not normally an aggressive person, but my blood boils when I hear of people who treat animals in this way.

I hope Benji goes on to have lots of love and happiness in his little life...........he deserves it. xxxx

Just caught all of this and words fail me for our so-called 'Animal Loving' race! any punishment metered out to those people would be too good for them in my book!!!

Glad Benji has been saved, he really is a super boy and hopefully will be rehomed and have a charmed life that he rightly deserves  :luv:

Thank You to all the people involved in Benji's rescue and his adorable foster carers they are soooo special and merit our appreciation as I would love to help but can't.

Love to all, especially Benji - cuddles and sloppy kisses!!! Heather xxx

I can't believe I missed all this!!  :o
Having now read the whole 7 pages, and seen the pictures and video dedicated to this very special little lamb, I am now in need of a stiff drink!
What a rollercoaster of emotions - Disbelief, fury (at his old 'owners'), hope, (and lots of tears!) at his beautiful video, and amazement and joy at the humbling dogged determination that Benji has shown to come through such a horrific ordeal, yet still be so loving and trusting to humans. His true beauty really shines through in the recent pics of him, and I love the fact that he is beginning to be a mischievous little cocker again.
I applaud his fostercarers for all their excellent work.
Benji, I wish you all the luck in the world with your new forever home. You are one very special boy  :luv: :luv:
Hope we will continue to have regular updates so we can watch the blossoming of this wonderful little chap.

All our love,
Jo & Milly xx

Thank you Lexi for posting an update on the special little boy  :D

Lovely to see how much he has come along, and what a lovely, caring foster family (and mum) he had to help him on his way.

It would be lovely if his forever parents could let us know (every day if poss  :005: only joking, weekly then  :005:) how he is coming along.

I'm sure as we've all shed many tears for this little  that we'd like to continue to shed good tears on seeing him happy  :D

I really don't know how on earth I missed this but having read through all the pages I am delighted to see the wonderful transformation of this gorgeous boy. I hope he enjoys his new loving and caring home and can put his terrible past behind him.

Aren't dogs fantastic, that after all that some humans inflict on them they can still be loving, trusting and affectionate. :luv:

Bless you Benji, you're one very special boy.  :-*
