Christmas tree will be going up in a week or so ( LOVE CHRISTMAS!!)
After organising all the extras I need to buy I also realised that Alex will probably enjoy stripping the tree as fast as i decorate it! ph34r
I will end up with a tree just decorated at the top! :005:
Do any of you have this problem and how do you resolve it?
Luckily he isn't cocking his leg yet to wee or that would be an additional problem! :005:
-
Depending how big your tree is, I found the only solution was to have a tree that I could stand on a table and decorate it. The table was positioned so that the dogs could not reach it, and they were only allowed in the same room when I was in there too.
If Alex is a pup I wouldn't put any choccies on it yet - too much of a temptation  (even for older dogs this may be a test!!)
If your tree is too large for the above idea - maybe have a smaller one for this year.
-
Musical tree lights. Had them when Murphy was a pup, he was terrified of them so we flung them but it seems to have put him off going near any of the tree's we've had since.
Maddi has never bothered, think it would be too much effort.
-
Well it's our first Christmas with with Miya and bought her first present last week, 101 Dalmatians but wouldn't play on bluray >:( >:( I know your thinking I'm a bit crazy but I have noticed she does look at the TV when dogs are on
Maybe I'll just buy some toys and treats like normal people :D

Put him in his crate or in another room whilst you decorate the tree. He may surprise you. Ollie has never gone near the tree or the presents under it  He has never taken any interest.
-
We have a 6ft tree, I will keep him away while I decorate it, and just distract him with other things to try and entice him away.
Also, how would you stop him attacking the kids presents xmas morning? He will have his own so shall I put him in his pen with his own to open (so to speak)?
-
The dogs not the problem, its the cats :D >:(. Loose all the lower decorations. The old cat used to hide them behind the settee like a magpie. You move the settee after christmas & there would be a neat pile of all the shiny ones :005:.
Feel should have a really small tree at the side of it decorated with Gravy bone baubles!

Explain to children that Santa has left pressies in a different place this year (of your choosing & safe from paws) & put a few little pressies for them hanging or on the tree, but out of harms way - you could do this when you have settled Alex for the night, with no danger of him helping himself.
-
Im dreading the tree next week :005: Riley will most probably be scared or even terrified of it.
Im going to get our son to take him out for an hour till at least we get it unpacked and all the stuff on it.
-
Jenny was only three months when it was her1st Christmas and had only taken a couple of things of the tree but pulling out the settee after Christmas we found alsorts which she had had and pushed them under the settee She would love to lay under there the light were often off and Penny never really bothered
-
Our 7 ft 6 inch tree is going up today :D will let you know what Molly thinks of it :005: she wasn't bothered last year although she did steal my dads wrapped wine gums from under the tree :005:
-
cheeky Molly! :005:

We were both lucky and surprised with Willows reaction to our tree last year but on a plus side she was nearly one years old when we put the tree up for the first time.
We got her a new doggie chew and toy, gave it to her in the same room where we did the tree. She sniffed the boxes etc but didnt try to take anything, not even the baubles. :luv:
We made sure we put it up on the friday night so we had all weekend with her to make sure she didnt try and do any damage. We leave her in the lounge where the the tree is when we are at work so we had to be sure by the monday that she had no interest in it.... We were pleasantly surprised :luv: Every time she went close when it was up we just said, 'Ahhhh ahhh' and called her back to her toy and chew. She was fine with everything but wasnt keen on a snowman we have at first and she barked at it and was unsure. All in all she was really good. Hoping this year is the same :D

Last year, puppy Charlie was around when we put it up - he did help with the tinsel, otherwise he was as good as gold, he wasn't bothered by the tree at all. I'm hoping teenager Charlie will be the same this year.
-
Roxy was 7 months old last Christmas and we were worried about our tree, so I brought a set of bells to hang on the lower branches and alert us of any attempts to
trash redocorate the tree!
I'm pleased to say she didn't really take any notice of it once it was up and decorated.

With a face like that, how could he be anything else :shades: :005:

That is a fab idea!
I will be purchasing a set of bells ;)

We are going to have a small tree in a pot to stand on a table this year, and probably for several years to come - I just KNOW that Ozzy would totally destroy a floor standing one in a nanosecond!!!!

Well our tree is up, and Molly isn't remotely bothered! We've had to bag the presents up under the tree though, to prevent her from stealing them like last year :005:

My first two cokers never paid any attention to my tree. Last year was Archies first Christmas. He was just under 5 months old. The tree lasted just under 5 minutes! For those who missed it last year, here he is with it.

No tree for me this year. :'( :shades:

Brilliant idea. Will definitely get some bells. This is why i love COL

Last year B was ok in the main, but he was so tiny he could barely reach anything anyway :luv:
I put a little artificial tree up as a trial run on Saturday. Popped out to the supermarket and returned to find tree horizontal on the floor :-\

That look he gives is adorable. Roly does it too when he is perhaps doing something that he shouldn't.
Think the caption should be "I really don't see what the problem is" :lol2:
In my house its the cat that you have to watch with a real tree - likes to climb it!!

I know I really shouldn't but :005: :005: :005:
The thing is when you see him he looks so appealing that it almost feels as if it's totally acceptable for him to be gnawing away at the tree
You must have the patience of Job!

Last year I had three dogs and a toddler who'd not long started walking - I thought it was a recipe for disaster but not one of them touched it! This year it'll be four dogs and a very busy glitter obsessed 2yr old tot - will give feedback at a later date :005: :005:

wow you're brave!!! :005: I wouldn't bother putting one up :005:

Our tree is usually placed on top of a table in the corner of the living room. Last year Milly decided that she would curl up under the table and guard the presents but otherwise wasn't bothered in the slightest.
This year we have Chaz as well and I've got a feeling that things could be......Different. :shades: He's already exhibited his low flying skills when circling the room at high speed, usually with Milly a few centimetres behind him. :005:
Given that the table and tree would be right in his usual flight path I might have to secure the tree in some way, embedding in concrete comes to mind ;), to stop it being knocked over.

Sue has sorted out tree already this year, should be Teal proof

Love that idea :lol2: See you have two football supporting snowman United & City by any chance? :005:

united for me and chelsea for Sue :D

united for me and chelsea for Sue :D
Mine would be Ipswich - let's face it they need all the support possible these days :005: & Southampton. Really need to get a yellow/ green one, (Norwich) I suppose - maybe I can get coloured lights for the tree instead & have a canary instead of a partridge ;) :shades:
-
Well our tree went up 1st December and our 9 1/2 month worker is not interested in the slightest :shades:
Just returned from a walk across the hills and my pup's stance when she sees something ahead that she's not sure of is worth a camera shot everytime :luv:
It made me think that even the intrusion of a 6ft evergreen draped in tinsel and flashing lights, she knows at home's a safe place and there's nothing to fear :luv: :luv:

Alex isnt interested in the tree after all the worry, think he is a bit miffed as it is in the way of his view from the patio doors :005:

Wouldn't you know it. But I would make sure the lighting cord is in a safe place when you are not about. ;)
-
It's tucked under the carpet ;)

Good thinking Batman :D

Our artificial tree went up yesterday with help from Jasper who took great delight in running off with the branches and hiding them in his crate :005: He's not bothered at all now it's up, just keeps lying in the chair next to it gazing at the lights with soulful eyes...must get a picture...
Last christmas he was around 4 months old so we put a guinea pig pen round the tree to keep him away, can't do that this year as he can climb over it now! Fingers crossed he stays so well behaved ;)
-
Charlie isn't bothered by the tree - however I do have a chime ornament on the tree, right at the bottom so I can hear when he's sniffing :)

Hi mel, we are thinking with Riley is because he saw us put up the tree , he too isnt bothered or fazed in the slightest by this huge thing with lights (could be he is used to trees ) however the 18 inch tall snowman on the fireplace was a different story :-\
My son took him out and when he returned there was Frosty sitting on the hearth. Riley backed out the room and barked every time he came back into it.
He is just about getting used to frosty.
-
Actually I think mine will be going up a week earlier than I thought - got some visitors coming on 20th and would like it done by then.....now where are all those baubles? ;)
-
I wouldn't dare here as I'd spend all my time shouting 'off Stella', 'no stella, 'no [insert any 1 of 5 cats' names here]'
-
Luckily Smudge isn't all that bothered  I just have to make sure the candles are far enough out of reach when burning - would not want him to burn himself :luv:
