We all have friends we love to meet
And gather round the table neat
True friendship is so very rare
To sever it we do not dare.
Then we have friends who love to shun
And play the dirty - just for fun.
Then there are others just like gold
Pure and true and can't be sold.
I had a loving little friend
Who would my very life defend?
Although he could not speak a word
Yet still his voice was often heard.
He'd guard the children while at play,
He'd keep the burglar far away.
When it was dark I need not fear,
Who'd dare to hurt me while he was near?
When I was happy he looked glad, When ill or grumpy -looked quite sad.
If troubled he seemed to understand
And rub his wet nose in my hand,
And looked as much - as if to say
"Don't fret I'll ever guard your way"
Keep up your pecker dear you know
This little doggie loves you so.
I do not know if up in heaven
These little pets will be
I have not read - nor have I seen
No information cam I glean,
But after I my saviour greet
The loved ones too that I shall meet
I'd like to see beyond the Pale
The wag of her cute little tail.
