I got mine off ebay, the difference between an ordinary harness and the no pull one is amazing, Coco is 15 months old and its the best he's ever walked. A bit tricky to put on until the dog is used to it but they soon learn, Coco tries to grab the sheepskin bits in his mouth   :005: well he's got to have a challenge.

Charlie will always have to use a harness and can never go back to a collar due to his disk disease in his spine so we could have arms like apes if we don't stop him pulling. I have ordered the harness yesterday from Ebay so just waiting for it to arrive.  Will let you all know if it helps

A what harness?  Photos please.  I've never heard of these before. (The piglet has a halti - aka the "my little pony outfit" for the road work we do, just for a little more control).

I'm really curious now.

great I am so glad someone else likes this I am still waiting for mine to arrive.  Bought it from Ebay as suggested.  Do a search for non-pull harness I have been told to buy a size medium for a cocker.

I'm really glad I've found this thread, and I'm going straight to ebay to find a sporn harness for my springer. Paddy walks nicely to heel when he is on his own, however he is like a steam train when Milly walks beside him or on the other side of me, as he weighs 20 kilos I'm sure I'm lopsided  :005:

Good luck with all the harnesses

Can these harnesses be used with a coupler?

Yes they can be used with a coupler.
The harness is a self-correcting harness. The dog pulls and it tightens under the front legs making it difficult to walk fast. As soon as the dog stops pulling the harness loosens immediately. Milly quickly learned using the sporn harness and it never caused her any discomfort.

The good news is the non-pull harness has arrived according to O/H.  The bad news is I am stuck at work until 5pm so wont be able to give it a try till after that. >:(

I have been using the harness for 3 days now and it is great.  The first time we tried it you could see Charlie self correcting himself and I was amazed.  Thanks all for this suggestion.

Glad you're getting on so well with it. :D

I'm SO pleased with Jarvis' harness, after him pulling on literally every walk we went on up til now, we've been able to walk him on a normal collar for the past week or so (after about 3 months of using the non-pull harness). :o So it does actually teach them not to pull at all.

If he carries on like this i'm gonna have to treat him to a nice new collar and lead set. :luv: :005:

Thanks Beth, O/H was doubtful at first, thinking but without saying, this wont work.  Well the first walk we took normally O/H normally is constantly telling Charlie to stop pulling as he is hurting his back, and physically correcting Charlie is not an option due to his back.  This time silence was golden, we all 4 of us had a good walk all round the park and every time charlie tried to be a chuff train I could see him hesitate as the harness tightened.  The only thing I need to figure out now is will it still work under his winter coat as I have made a slot in it so that the loop of the harness can go through to keep his back warm in the Winter.

My mum has a border collie, Sophie, lovely natured but pulls like nothing on earth and nothing has stopped her. My mum is 65 with osteoporosis and I've always really worried about Sophie just pulling her over (she does that collie thing with cars, tries to herd them so they walk down this long, country lane with Sophie dragging my mum, then she'll spot a car, run behind my mum, lie down, wait for it to approach then run in front of her. It's a nightmare  >:D

Well I bought her a sporn harness last weekend when I was up visiting her in Carlisle. She is so impressed, said Sophie is 90% better and yesterday morning with no traffic, they walked 20mins up and down the lane with Sophie trotting happily at her side the whole way. She's had 7 years of being dragged around so I'm really, really pleased it's working (and that's a dog who REALLY pulls hard...).

I may get one for Bella for Paws in the Park as she's a nightmare at events like that, always leaning out as far as possible on the lead.  ::)

THANKS FOR THIS THREAD GUYS!!!

Dave isn't too bad on the lead but had started showing a little more keeness (particularly on the way home  :005:). After all your talk of Sporn, I got him a pup sized harness and I have no idea exactly why but the second he pulls against it he gives up and happily trots along next to me.. BRILLIANT! (Wish they'd been around when 'steam Trev' was a pup ;))
