I would and am afraid my heart does on occassion rule my head but i'm a realist better to get the dog out if its on a PTS order and then deal with the problems later get in touch with rescue they maybe able to help you find a good home.
I'm able to crate or to section mine and any other dogs off so if there are any problems it can be quickly sorted out and if I take a dog in from ireland which i have done on occassion I get them straight to the vet before I take them home in case of kennel cough or anything else they might have picked up and can pass to mine. I also do ALL the jabs and microchip that way at least when they are rehomed you know that they have the basics already.
The dogs from ireland are the most heartbreaking sometimes, we've had a couple recently one an old boy who was lovely but due to his health had to be pts after all and another that turned out to be a cross that we with a bit of luck managed to find a good home for. The rescue's I work for don't usually take crosses but on this occassion the kennel maid had fibbed a little bit to give a good dog a chance, one thats brought that particular dog a nice soft bed, lots of fuss and a barf diet
