This is the type of bowl commonly used in cages/crates, and is what mine have in theirs  :D

That's a good idea actually...I know someone who uses the large Rabbit water bottles when taking her dogs to shows ,so they don't spill the water before they go in the ring (as cockers do  :roll: ) she taught them to drink through them by putting something tasty in the water...then just gradually changed it to plain old water...I suppose this would work for in the car to  :)  Butty being a small cocker only has a 24" crate...but then she is onlyever in it in the car...when she was a puppy we used a playpen  :)
